Lynn (Bert)"The mother of Catherine L Lutz was Sally Russ supposedly an Indian. She had two
children out of wedlock. One was a Hoyle and the other a Lutz. She delivered
Catherine to the Lutz Family and rode off on her horse."My conclusion:
There was a Sarah Russ in the 1840 Lincoln County Census living next to
James Russ. Most likely James was her father. I found in the 1880 Lincoln
County Census that James Russ was 87 years old and his father came from
Portugal. This would explain the "Indian" since Sally would have been
one-fourth Portugese and most likely with a dark complexion. The Russ Family
has people buried at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vale, Lincoln County. I think
that the father of Catherine is Ambrose Alexander Lutz and he would have been
almost 18 at her birth. In the 1840 Lincoln County Census there are two female
children 5-10 living with Ephraim and Lucina Lutz. I think that these two were
Anna and Catherine. Anna married John Lingerfelt in 1848 and William Pilgrim
Lynn was the bondsman. William married Catherine in 1849 and their first child,
Ambrose Alexander Lynn, was named for Ambrose Alexander Lutz. Catherine Lutz is
listed in the Lutz Book as potentially being the daughter of David Lutz who
moved to Georgia. I do not think this is true and both she and Anna were
omitted as members of Ephraim or Ambrose Lutz Families. Anna and John
Lingerfelt lived next to Ephraim Lutz in the 1860 Caldwell County census. Anna
named a daughter Catherine. Catherine and William Pilgrim Lynn received land
from Daniel Lutz which should confirm that she was his Granddaughter and I
