At a distance of 27 miles (43 Klm) from Mahe and 3-3/4 miles (6 Klm) from Praslin, La
Digue is the fourth of the major granitic islands of the Seychelles. Immense blocks
of granite protruding in profusion out of the earth lend a strange aspect to the
landscape.
The summit of mount "Nid Aigle" at 984 feet (300 meters) dominates the
center of the island. Exploring the shade covered pathway, one will discover the
cottages of the islanders nested amongst the trees, some constructed of the simplest of
materials, others in the grand manner typical of the houses of the wealthier Seychelloise.
While wandering the island, one observes and senses with the greatest of pleasure the
flora and fauna of the island and take time out to relax in the sun and the sand of one of
the superb beaches.
