THE LOG
April 21, 2001
We started our project on a Saturday. My dad and I, along with the help of my three son-in-laws, got the old tractor squared away in a bay in the barn and got the old cultivator set off of it. We set up our tools and got the bench ready and started taking some of the small pieces off of it.

We really tore into it today. Removed the fenders, sheet metal hood, gas tank, fuel lines, tool box and took the magneto off the engine. Now all we have is an engine all by itself and a steering tower on the frame.
Our engine was running when the tractor was parked so we are going to try to get by without engine work for now. We took a look at the engine oil and it looks real good. Grandpa was real good about changing the oil in his equipment.
The engine is oily but after wiping the valve cover you can see it looks well preserved, even the paint on the engine was half way decent. The exhaust pipe is gone and where it bolts to the manifold looks rough.

I tore the magneto apart to see what we needed for it. We decided for points and cap and after seeing the cracked coil tower inside we knew we needed that too. The rotor is worn badly and would like to get one if I can though this one might go.

Went to see Lynn Ott for our mag parts. We ordered a coil tower and a cap and a set of points. Our rotor was wore pretty bad and Mr. Ott just happened to have one of them too so we snagged up on that while we could. He will call us when the parts get in that he didn’t have in stock and bill us then.

We took a cruise out to a couple of our local bone yards to kind of get an idea of what was there. We found a brake drum and shoes the cover and hardware we needed for the left side at Willard Implement in Willard, Ohio. We got the brake parts we needed for $35.00. We picked out some rims for the rear that were in better shape than ours at Gene's Recycling, the bone yard in Attica, Ohio. Our wheels were filled and had leaked and the beads were rusted away. They said they would get them off and give us a call.
