::5 Basic Tips::

1. First and foremost, I don't care how much you're trembling, or how sweaty your palms are, and if you're knees are knocking 'cause you've never sparred before, the first and most important tip is: Don't show your apprehension to your opponent, not in body language, not in facial expressions, and especially not in words. This does not mean you have to be a bitch, just don't apologize and don't make excuses. Be brave, be as the warrioress you are in your heart, be bold.

2. Read and get a basic understanding of the rules of sparring before undertaking your first spar, so you'll know how a spar flows, the concepts of taking turns in posting, how not to force a post, what is back-posting, etc.

3. Read and study the spars of others. Find them wherever you can on our spar board here, on the tourney pages of the panthers is another good source, get copies of spars from any panther friends, find copies of spars on the message boards of other panther lairs. Read, study, study, and read. (Our spar board is here.)

4. Imagine your actions in your mind and practice the moves in real-time, to see how easily they flow and try to determine if they're realistic or not…being realistic is a key to successful sparring.

5. Last, but not least, although you have enough work in the above tips to keep you busy for weeks, don't let that stop you from starting to practice. Jump in right now, today, because the sooner you start, the sooner you'll get more comfortable and proficient at sparring. Find somebody, anybody, ask people constantly to spar with you, the more you spar, the faster you'll gain skill and confidence.
