Route 60 Memorial Ride Journals Monday, October 15, 2001 Double-Wide Monday Winona to Dexter— On the road before first light, 92 miles of hills, a really good riding day. Nine double-wide houses passed me headed west to the Ozarks, and four single wides. That's 22 truckloads of houses. One well used single-wide was heading east, must have been a trade-in. All these houses and other wide-loads made for some defensive bike riding. Then a great road out of the Ozarks to the Missippi River flatlands. |
Missouri Route 60, here a fantastic-four-lane highway with paved and clean shoulder. Yes VDOT, there are good highways, but with no car tax, how do you fund them? In OK and MO the roads are excellent and free of litter, kept that way by stiff penalties and prison labor. Get them away from the color TV and on the road, Virginia. |
