Route 60 Memorial Ride Journals
Friday, October 5, 2001 In Search of the Westin
Fort Worth to Oklahoma City — The train eased into downtown Oklahoma City on an elevated track with a beautiful night view of the city, and just ahead of schedule. The Westin Hotel in its entire opulent ambience—a quality I usually shun—felt almighty good after three days of coal dust. It’s been over 50 years since I have traveled by coal-fired train, but somehow the railroad still has the recognizable odor of coal—or a forever associated memory. |
