The Sendoff

Piedmont to Stillwater —  The sendoff from Piedmont even included a newspaper interview. Again the Cornelius were the best.
On to Guthrie and Stillwater, an ambitious first full day of riding.

The Bible Baptist Church in Guthrie, OK. This memorial was featured on the front page of the Richmond Times Dispatch. I left them a copy of the paper.
Notice how a 30 mph wind can hold out a flag. With the wind at my back I was doing 20 mph and hardly pedaling. But riding with the wind from the side was difficult. So far I haven't faced a head wind like this. Good reason to ride west to east.

The Cornelius family poses for a farewell picture. I will forever remember this wonderful visit.
On the prarie outside of Piedmont it was a hold-your-hat-windy day.

The residents around here had complained about potholes one too many times. The county ripped up the pavement and produced a pothole free dirt road. So the story goes.
