Pictures From Around the world.
9th August 2004
A few new pictures to look at, covering New Zealand, Fiji, bit of Australia, America, and my Blond Hair!
- A diving sperm whale we saw off the coast of Kaikora when we went whale watching. That was a pretty amazing day.(click here)
- The staff at the Western Hostel, a very friendly lot especially big Joe. We enjoyed out stay there until Mauri, the dodgey one in the background, stole our Vodka.(click here)
- The Valley in Yosemite park as seen from the top of a waterfall. I think this one also speaks for itself.(click here)
- This is Claude and Tom, the source of much entertainment at Sunseekers Hostel near Nadi. Tom would cook us several amazing meals a day, then he and Claude would often play the guitar and sing a few songs for us and the guests in the evenings. It was a pleasure to know them both. (click here)
- One of the Sleeping Giant mountains in Fiji. This was the view we'd wake up to when we first arrived in the country, I'll leave you to work out why it's called the sleeping giant. (click here)
- One of several Seals we saw in New Zealand, this one in particular enjoyed posing for me while I took picture of him. This isn't a rare this for New Zealanders but it was for us. (click here)
- This is bounty Rum, and can only be described as Fiji's most evil drink. You can probably just about make out the numbers 58 follwed by %, you'd be suprised how entertaining it can be watching those poor fools stupid enough to drink it. Seveal people can vouch for how entertaining we were in fact. (click here)
- Kyle and myself with our faithful car Papa Smurf, which was our home, kitchen, and of course our transport round New Zealand. (click here)
- This is one of the volcanos on the Tongariro trek which we couldn't go on due to the conditions. If you've seen Lord of the Rings, you'll probably recognise it as Mount Doom.(click here)
- Another view we came across on the Keplar track. This one pretty much speaks for itself. (click here)
- The group we had on Mana Island, we enjoyed many an entertaining night coming up with drinking games, watching the sun set, fishing, and general island stuff. From left to right Kyle, Will, Nick, Weasle (also called Nick sometimes), Kim, Sam, Jeff. Oh and the mangey dog you can see is Mutard, named by Nic, Weasle and Sam. For some reason John isn't in the picture, who was also part of out team. (click here)
- Kyle and I with our friend Phil, who we met on the first day Trekking on the Keplar track. This is just before we got to the summit, which I have a picture of but hasn't come out too well, we're going to try and get a better one off Phil. (click here)
- Kyle and myself stood in front of the most southernly lighthouse in the World, this was in New Zealand by the way. (click here)
- From left to right, Natalie, Kim, myself and my new blond hair, and Kyle. As you can see we're stood inside a tree, also in Yosemite park. (click here)
- One of the Sequoia trees in Yosemite park (not to be confused with Giant Redwoods which are actually smaller). This one has earned the name 'Old Grizzy' and is believed to be 1820 years old, apparently they can live as long as 3200 years.(click here)
- One of the fire dancing displays we saw on Mana Island. The locals would reguarly put on entertainment for the tourists.(click here)
- I took this from the back of the motorbike our Fijian friend Claude lent us. This was on the mainland near Nadi, it gives a good idea of what the whole island looks like.(click here)
- This is the view we woke up to on our second day of trekking on the Keplar track, this is near the top of mount Luxmore by Te Anau which is on the south island of New Zealand. Apparently they filmed a lot of Lord of the Rings in this area.(click here)
13th May 2004
Here we are, a selection of my East-Coast pictures. I've throw in some of my attepts at doing arty photos too. You luckey people!
- Ok, a pretty naff picture I hastily took from the bus with a disposable camera. This was while we were driving over the Sydney habour bridge, and the start of my adventures up the coast.(click here)
- Typical beach on the East coast, this particular one is at Coffs Harbour. I have hundreds more like this, but one will do for now(click here)
- This is an Orb Spider, taken at the Town of 1770 in the forest. Apparently a bite from one of these boys isn't lethal, but then again the guide who told us that also believes the world is run by lizards, I kid you not.(click here)
- Arty picture of a couple of dead fish on Coffs harbour. Not wishing to blow my own trumpet, but I think it's a cool picture.(click here)
- Koala bear at Steve Irwins Zoo, think I forgot to mention I went there. Apparently these bears are the lazy bums of the animal kingdom, sleeping an average of 23 hours a day. I've no idea if that's true or not, you always have to treat information from fellow travellers with a pinch of salt. No wonder they're dying out.(click here)
- A Roo also chilling in Steve Irwins Zoo, they're quite happy for you to stroke/kick them as you please, and they'll generally just sit there until the evening when it's cool enough to move around. In case you're wondering why some of these pictures are in black and white, it's because I didn't use a whole reel when makig my arty pictures. So thought I'd finish off at Stevo's Zoo.(click here)
- Just one of millions of surfers that inhabit all non-dangerous beaches throughout Oz. This was taken while I was skillfully perched on the back of another surfboard, while ensuring that my non-waterproof camera remained dry. OK, I took it while sat on a rock. (click here)
- Taken from the lighthouse in Byron Bay, this was one of things I really wanted to do if I could afford it. Oh well there's always New Zealand. (click here)
- The Crazy cat, Steve Irwin Himself. Doing his usual thing of standing in front of incredibly dangerous animals. He was there to open up the new part of his Zoo (the Crocseum), and also put on a show of Huge Crocs, Gigantic Birds of Prey, Stupidly big Snakes, and rediculously cute baby Benghal Tigers. CRIKEY!(click here)
- A 'not-at-all close up' of the pic of the Benghal Tigers. I'll try and enlarge this at some point. (click here)
- One of the oddest things I've seen here, apparently cattapillers walk around in lines in Noosa (and probably a few other places too). (click here)
- The two Kewi girls I met up with in Noosa. They very charitably let me kip in their campervan, when I turned up in Noosa at 2am with no hostel booking and no idea where to go. We then went on a walk through the local national park the next day, which was one of the best walks I've been on while in Oz. (click here)
- Was debating whether to bother putting this photo in, being as how it's so shaken due to not having a flash for my camera. Anyway, these were the gang I hooked up with in Noosa Backpackers. We enjoyed several good drinking sessions and one amazing feast which we all chipped in for and promtly cooked. Hi guys of you're reading this! (click here)
- Alan and I on a rock beach in 1770, I met up with Alan in 'Cool Bananas' which was the hostel we stopped in. Also with us and taking the picture was Lisa, both of them Aussies. You wouldn't believe how long we stood there waiting to get this pic. (click here)
- The tour group I was with in 1770. The tour included a very long beach walk, a walk through the forest looking at wildlife such as dangerous spiders, tree ants, turtle nests, parrots, underground cochroaches that snare passing ants, sea cucumbers, and a dead snake. The tour also included eating bush tucka, swimming on the cool beach you can see in the pic, and also as you can see, an all over mud-pack treatment. The tour guide was the guy I mentioned earlier who believes that the world is run by Lizards. That was one of his less insane theories, basically he believes everything David Ike says. Which was a bit depressing, because it made many of us wonder exactly how accurate his wildlife and bush tucka expertise was.(click here)
8th Febuary 2004
Finally! I've spent the whole day tirelessly scanning, editing and uploading pictures. Due to the poor quality of the scanner, I've had to touch up the pictures as best as I can, but it's better then nothing. There's loads more where these came from, but that will have to wait for another day. These are all from my collection with a few of Oli's too. Still no word from Johnny, someone pester him for me please. I'd love to give full descriptions of each picture, but it would take too long and probably bore you anyway. So anyway, in absolutely no order I give you, SOME PICTURES!
- This was taken shortly after Kyle and I met up in Varanasi. Sat on the roof of the hotel where we then decided to celebrate by repeatedly sampling Kingfisher lager. Again, I feel it's worth pointing out, this was before I lost a shed load of weight.(click here)
- Picture of part of the blue mountains, where we recently went on a camping trip.(click here)
- Picture of part of the blue mountains with some of us lot in it! From left to right, James, Jabba, Anna, Oli, Will. (click here)
- This was our campsite at the blue mountains. From left to right, Jabba, James (stood up), Dale, Lee. This is one of the rare photoes where Lee isn't gurning for the camera. (click here)
- View of the Ganga river by night, this was just after Kyle and I had got back to Varanasi after visiting Nepal. You can just about make out several candle floating down the river. (click here)
- View of the Ganga river as the sun rises. The picture no where near does it justice incidently.(click here)
- People worshiping the sun rise and swimming in the Ganga.(click here)
- Ditto.(click here)
- Ditto.(click here)
- Kyle, Oli and James sat in the back yard of our house in Ashfield. AS you can see, not being the most exciting place in the world, we are forced to entertain ourselves.(click here)
- Our congregation area when we were stopping at the Original Backpackers Lodge. As you can see, it was when Johnny was with us. Left to right, Lee, Johnny, Kyle, Dale, Nicole, and just out of shot, Timbo.(click here)
- The India Gate in Delhi.(click here)
- Indian Dazncers performing for the tourists and then asking for money. Was worth the twenty rupees I paid to watch and take a picture.(click here)
- The hill-fort in Jaipur. While I was visiting the was a religious festival going on there, so it was pretty chaotic, and people kept trying to take tourists shoes off and look after them for money.(click here)
- The Jaipur Government building, as you can see it's in the part of Jaipur known as the Pink City.(click here)
- James cooking his steak on the Barbie, when we were camping in the Blue Mountains. The goggles were to protect his eyes from the smoke, we can only speculate at what the cape was for. Either way he claims not to remember. (click here)
- After we had recoverd from the terrible journey from Varanasi to Katmando. Our first day in Nepal was spent seeing what we'd look like with goaties. I wasn't able to get hold of Kyles picture of me, but I'm sure it will be up here soon.(click here)
- New years eve, while we were waiting for the evening, we were luckey enough to be treated to some Mexican music and Dancing. Luckey luckey us.(click here)
- A monkey busy minding his own buisiness in the Red Fort, the one just down the road from the Taj Mahal.(click here)
- Two dancing monkeys outside the India Gate, he wanted 50 rupees for this, but my guide for the day insisted I only pay him 10. He'd have probably gotten the 50 if he hadn't demanded it.(click here)
- Cheering in the new year in the park. From left to right, Lee, Me(Will), Ozz, James, Dave, and Charlie. Another rare photo of Lee not Gurning.(click here)
- The view from our favourate bar in Pokhara at Sun Set. Sadly the picture no where near does it justice.(click here)
- Ditto.(click here)
- One of my favourate pictures. I took this after I had recoverd from being ill and while Sean and Kyle were still away. It was at festival time, when all the children go round singing for people. Instead of giving them some money I bought them a bowl of noodles each, in return they bought me a bottle of coke. The next day they wanted to have another meal off me, and much to the amusement of Kyle and Sean were all hanging off my arms and neck as I tried to walk down the street. The ring-leader was the cheeky chap second from the right.(click here)
- View from our lodge in Pokhara, annoyingly, non of my pictures of the mountains came out all that well and you can barely see them. I think Kyle has some good pics of them though.(click here)
- This is Dave, Russel and Ozz who I met at the Hostel, who were a great laugh and also joined us to see in the new year. As you can see, they're Scottish.(click here)
- Obligatory picture of Sydney Harbour Bridge taken from the Ferry when Johnny and I visited Manly beach.(click here)
- Obligatory picture of Taj Mahal, I had to crop this picture loads thanks to the naff scanner I'm using. I'll put of the full version when I get the chance.(click here)
- Close up obligatory picture of Taj Mahal.(click here)
- View of the main gate to the Taj.(click here)
- The Ashfield gang on a night out in Sydney Central, I'll re-scan this as well so you can make out the faces. From left to right, Mate of Aussie who took the photo for us, Graham, Dale, Oli, Anna, James, Myself, Kyle, and Jabba.(click here)
- Not really much to make out here. But on our second from last night in India, Kyle and I could see a large wedding going on. This was taken when thousands of very rich looking people were being led down the street by a brass band, playing some very intense music. You had to be there really.(click here)
Oli's Pics
Only a couple that Oli wanted to put up for now.
- Blue mountains, Oli stood by the lake where we were camping. The scanner has kindly cut off his head though. Note the clean white T-shirt.(click here)
- James swimming in said lake, with a suspicious looking pile of mud in his hand.(click here)
- Oli Sporting a not-quite-as-white-as-before T-shirt.(click here)
- Oli showing off his new hair style, his dad was really thrilled when Oli told him about it.(click here)
24th December 2003
Ok not the pictures I was hoping to put up (still waiting for those pics from Jonny), but Werner has kindly sent some pics he took in the guesthouse we all stopped at on the border of Nepal. This was obviously before I was ill and lost a load of weight, but it was however after we had sampled quite a few bottles of Nepal's finest lager. Oh by the way, the pics are quite large at the moment so will take a while to load. When I find a decent computer I'll half the size of them. From left to right, Hippy Sean, Annie, Kyle and myself obviously.
- Bus trip to Katmando 1 (click here)
- Bus trip to Katmando 2 (click here)
Needless to say, I detest both photos in general and feel neither of them reflect my classic profile. And certainly don't represent the new sportier and generally much thinner version of myself.
