September

By Rachel

Back to the old grind. School, Seminary and annoying students who can’t keep their hands to themselves. But wont name any names *coughReidcough*. September is a time to go to the books and relearn everything because you forgot it over the summer while you were watching TV and eating marshmallow crunchies 24/7. Yet I suppose I am luckier then some. For example some of my family members like to watch the History Channel and PBS. So your brain can’t go all mush, as long as someone wiser has control of the remote at least. Not that I’m saying I like everything that’s on the PBS, I mean, for goodness sake! They had a special on the history of Ireland and they didn’t mention Enya once! How sad is that? Well anyway, back to my point. So we study and study for a whole month to try and relearn and remember everything we’ve forgotten. I personally think we should all petition to skip September and just go straight to October. Less work on what little amount of brain cells I still have left.

The Potato Story By Rosi

There once was a potato named Bill who lived in Idaho on a potato farm. When he was young he said he wanted to be the most yummy potato ever! When he was old enough he was brought to a store called Stater Brothers. Bill was happy because he knew soon he would be eaten. But after awhile Bill was not happy because all the other potatoes were being bought but Bill was not. One day Bill looked over to the apple next to him and asked one a question.
"Apple why do they buy you, and not me?"
"Because" the apple answered." I am a fruit and I'm tasty, you are but a potato. A sad, lonely, ugly, old potato." Bill felt bad then and started to weep. The next day a little girl came and started picking the potatoes. Finally she picked up Bill and bought him. Bill sat in there house for a very long time, until the little girl got hungry and ate him. And Bill got his wish.

The End.

Family Update

by Ruth

September is for School and Seminary to begin. With Summer drawing to a close, I started to take down the pool...more on that story later! This year, we're back to Saxon Math. I just love Saxon. One of the best math programs on the market. If anyone is having problems with Math, they can go to www.SaxonMath.com and get tons of help too. This year is different for Seminary as well. I've been given permission to actually teach a lesson to my own children every day, instead of having them just complete assignments in their workbooks. Much better for both the students and teacher! We still meet on Wedsday evenings for other class members as well. Happy Birthday to Rosilynn, who turned 12 this month! and graduated from Primary! and received her Girl's Activity Award! Yeah!! It was  kind of a bitter-sweet feeling to sit next to her during her last Sharing-Time in Primary  ;)  So, now she is in the Young Women program and has even more opportunities for goal-setting, and achievement.

Individual News

Rachel: "Seminary started this month and it is MUCH more interesting then last year." Rebecca is kind of enjoying school...tune in next month to see if that changes.
Ruth: "School has officially begun, and so has Seminary!! This year is totally different. Teaching methods which I have been taught are finally sinking in. It's nice to know that you CAN teach an old dog NEW tricks!! That teachers can learn as well as their students." Rodney: "My baby--Miss Kitty has been et and I'm lost without her!  But there's this new Kitty in my life now. Tigger-Boy. He reminds me of my little Tigger. Looking foreward to Fall. (sigh) Work, work, work."
Rosilynn turned 12 this month and is going to Young Woman's activities! Roxanna had a lot of things to do in September.  Unfortunately she didn't get any of them done...oopsie!
Ryan got a car this month.  Another highlight of his month was eating a hamburger from ampm...mmm.
Reanna did "something" (no clue as to what that is) on Rosi's birthday and read a book. Reid's most exciting moment of the month was cleaning out the cat cage.  When asked why he chose this moment, Reid replied, "It was the highlight of the month!" ...ok, Reid...whatever.
