7.  RIF FORT

Location: Otrobanda, Gouverneur van Slobbeweg

Ownership:The Island Territory of Curaçao

The Rif Fort was built between 1826 and 1828 on the Western Corner near the debouchment of Sint Anna Bay, on a narrow strip of land to the South of the former Rifwater. It is part of the series of fortifications planned at the time to run parallel to the coast and bay.

The power plant behaind the Riffort has been planned to be relocated and the buildings demolished in the near future.

Riffort - Otrobanda

On the landward side to the North is the former Guardhouse and also an open space. The Rif Fort is constructed of rough-hewn blocks of broken or coral stone jointed with lime mortar. The arches and stairways are of red brick.
