Bald Head - Blue Mountains

A good view from Baltzer lookout. What outrageously positioned routes huh? To give some perspective, AAS (marked) is a 30m arete (hanging about 150m above the ground!!), the Main Wall is 100m long by 50m high, and the total height of these cliffs would be about 200m! Breathtaking!

What a crag!

The view of this nice wall as you approach. Andrew is at the belay of AAS, while Thinning on Top (** 30m 23) goes up the orange rock just L of the wide black streak. Another new route added recently goes at about 20, starting as for AAS but staying L of the arete. Don't go too close to this tree, it's hanging way over the edge!

Advanced Air Studios (** 30m 19), Bald Head, Blue Mountains

The ridiculous view looking straight down from the belay of AAS, perched 150m above the treetops....gulp!!

If he wasn't already down there I wouldn't be doing this!!

And here's what awaits the second person to rap (me in this instance) - dangling 10m out from the nearest rock, 150m off the deck!! Needless to say, take some ascenders kiddies!

Will says: pull me in to the belay and I mean NOW!!

A photo of Andrew after the first ascent. No wonder he's smiling - look at the magnificent scenery. This is the Grose, one of the most beautiful valleys in the world. To give some perspective to this shot, bear in mind that the cliffs are all 150-250m high.

The good ole climber's grin....

Main Wall

Here's the view from the belay on this excellent route, with Walls Lookout (and Samarkand (25)) across the valley. This wall is 50m high, and the lower cliff (out of shot) is over 100m high - what a magnificent position!!

Phwoar! What a great chunk of rock!

And this is the view from Walls Lookout back towards, from L-R, Bald Head, Hat Hill Creek, Baltzer Lookout and Hanging Rock - where people do 50m rope jumps.

Get off your computer and go climb!!
