Bellerephon Wall
The Word: A great warm up or cool-down for the Amphitheatre.
The Crag Classic(s): The convenient access!
The Hidden Gem: Apollo 13 is worth doing
Best Season(s): Best in spring/autumn, but ok if temps are between perhaps 14 and 30 so can be climbable almost any time of the year.
Sun/shade: Shade until late afternoon - freezing on winter mornings.
Wet weather options: Nope - but Kindergarten bouldering is right above the crag.
Style & Length of Climbs: Vertical face routes, 15-18m.
Rock type: Sorta cool turtleshell rock on the right wall, and it's mostly quite sound, though the crag in general seems to get a little sandy on the surface.
Guidebook(s): (Page ??)
Available Grades; Best Grades:7-23
The Details: A nice little vertical edge offering a smattering of routes nice and close to the car.
Access: Wander up from the Flat Rock carpark to the little crag halfway up Flat Rock over on your left. 3 minutes.
Descent(s): Walk down the west end (towards mount Zero). If you're doing a few routes it's worth fixing a rap rope to speed things up.
Mt Stapylton Amphitheatre and Flat Rock as viewed from the southern flank of Mt Zero
A similar view but this time from the summit of Mt Zero. Bellerephon Wall is marked at far right, with various other crags and bouldering areas also indicated (see my other pages for those areas).
A zoomed view of Bellerephon Wall from the summit of Mt Zero, with Magic Mushroom (* 7) and Bellerephon (8) initialled. The descent for the crag is at far left of this shot.
A view of Bellerephon Wall from the Flat Rock walking track, also showing Clicke Wall (climbing) and Kindergarten (bouldering) areas above. The descent for Bellerephon (also the way up to Kindergarten) is at far left of this shot.
Described L to R.
Apollo 13 15m 18 (YP)
About 10m left of the major corner of Bellerephon, this face route starts just left of a large boulder and takes the just-clean-enough face left of a mossy section.
KP shakes and wobbles his way up Apollo 13 (18) wearing his best 80s disco pants.
Bellerephon 15m 8 (YP)
The obvious square cut corner isn't a bad old ramble.
KP commandeers the blunt end for Bellerephon. The obvious crack on the left is Pegleg (16).
Mike keeps on keeping on, on Bellerephon. The nice turtleshell wall to the right has quite a few good routes.
