Thank You

The club was packed. It was a far cry from the small,
intimate audience at the Expresso Pump and was awed by
how easily Giles dealt with crowd.

A few months ago he’d formed his own band. She could
still remember the look in his eyes, how they
virtually glowed with excitement. Most of the members
were about his age, except for the drummer who Buffy
had staked a claim to after their first show.

Willow and Giles been dating for nearly six months and
she’d never seen him happier. He said it was having her in
his life, and while she hoped that was a big part of
it, she knew that the music was everything to him.

She sighed a little sadly and leaned back in her
chair. Whatever the cause, if he was happy, she was
happy.

She watched him sing the end of a great cover
of The Who’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again” and not for the
first time admired how sexy he looked in his black
jeans and black T-shirt.

Giles waited for the applause to die down and then
addressed the crowd.

“Well, that’s just about it,” he said receiving pleas
for more from the crowd. He held up a hand to silence
them. “We’ve got one more to play... and it’s for
someone very special to me. I don’t know where I’d be
without her.” He looked down and then stared into the
blackness, knowing exactly where she was. “Willow... I
love you.”

Willow’s breath caught. As much as he’d relaxed,
Rupert still wasn’t a man who let his emotions out in
public. For him to say that in front of everyone made
her heart fill.

Giles kept his eyes on Willow as the band began
playing the slow beautiful ballad. When he started
singing it was to her and her alone.

If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving
you.
When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be
you and me.
Kind woman, I give you my all, Kind woman, nothing
more.

Little drops of rain whisper of the pain, tears of
loves lost in the days gone by.
My love is strong, with you there is no wrong,
together we shall go until we die. My, my, my.
An inspiration is what you are to me, inspiration,
look... see.

And so today, my world it smiles, your hand in mine,
we walk the miles,
Thanks to you it will be done, for you to me are the
only one.
Happiness, no more be sad, happiness... I'm glad.

If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving
you.
When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be
you and me.

The crowd burst into applause and Willow burst into
tears. Giles mumbled his thanks into the microphone
and quickly set his guitar aside.

He strode over to her table and pulled her into his
arms. He kissed her once before wiping her tears away.
“What’s wrong?” he asked worriedly.

“Wow,” was all she could say.

Giles laughed in relief and kissed her again. “Love,
you’re going to be the death of me,” he said and then
added with a smile. “But what a way to go.”

Willow ran her hand down his cheek. “Thank you,” she
whispered.

Giles shook his head, kissed the palm of her hand and
gazed down at her amazement. “Thank you, love. Thank
you.”

The End
