.. 1960 to 19691961The 2CV underwent a major facelift. The old "corrugated bonnet" was replaced by a new, sleeker bonnet, with 5 smooth ridges running down it. The AMI 6 was introduced. This was one of the first attempts to "modernise" the 2CV. It was of a sleeker shape, had a comfortable interior, and much of the bodywork was double skinned. It was prone to rusting, and opinions about its appearance varied; like the 2CV, it was either loved or loathed. 1963The 2CV gets a new luxury.... Electric windscreen wipers. 1965The old "suicide" front doors were considered too dangerous (opening one at speed, with no seatbelt on was not advisable) and replaced with more conventional doors hinged at the front. 1966Production of 2CV cars and vans in the United Kingdom stops after 13 years. 1968Two new models, both based on the 2CV were
introduced in this year:
1969The AMI 6 is replaced by the AMI 8. This was an improved version of the car with sleeker lines and a very well appointed interior. |
