WHAT'S NEW

CURRENT CAMPAIGNS

  • We have finally got the yellow boxed junction, between the bottom of Wilson Road and the top of Benhill Road on Camberwell Church Street. This was the result of a request to Transport for London and a campaign sponsored by our ward councillor Ian Wingfield and promoted in Southwark News.
  • Camberwell Police Station, is now open twice a week, on Wednesday and Friday afternoons between 1pm and 5pm. The front counter will only be manned by fully trained community volunteers, but it is a start and we intend to keep the presssure up, until we have a fully operational police station in Camberwell. If you would like more information about the service or you would like to volunteer contact Volunteers in Policing tel 020 7297 8517.
  • Southwark Council will be undertaking some heavy pruning of the shrubs in St Giles Churchyard. Which means they will look bare for a while until the new growth appears, but then they will be healthier. The council also planned to lock the churchyard between twilight and 8am. The path from Camberwell Grove to Camberwell Church Street, past the west end of the church will continue to be a public right of way.
  • MARINA HOUSE
Are you aware that Marina House on Denmark Hill is starting a new service to their patients. They will be dispensing heroin instead of merely dispensing prescriptions. This decision was taken without consulting the community. All our Ward Councillors, together with the Ward Councillors for Camberwell Green are actively fighting this decision in an attempt to get it reverse. If you would like to help with this campaign please contact a member of the committee or the secretary, Mandy Henry, and sign the petition we are preparing for the Minister for Health.
  • The next meeting of the Wilson's Residents Association will be a Committee Meeting, on Thursday 7th April 2005 at the Lettsom TA Hall, Vestry Road 7pm to 9pm. Although it is only a committee meeting everyone is welcome.
  • HOUSING NEIGHBOURHOOD OFFICE
Since January the Pelican Neighbourhood Office has been closed and our part of Camberwell now comes under Harris Street. Allen MacPherson is the Housing Officer for Camberwell and he can be contacted on 020 7 525 1350 or his mobile which is 07956 817 848. The Housing Repairs Call Centre is a free number 0800 952 4444.
  • RECYCLING NEWS
Did you know that you can now recycle cardboard in your blue bag? Big cardboard boxes need to be flattened or broken down into small enough pieces to fit into your blue bag. For more details telephone 020 7525 2000 or visit the Southwark Council Recycling website For collection days see the side panel.
  • DECENT HOMES

Council homes in Wilson Road are currently being modernised under the Decent Homes Initiative. If you have questions you would like to ask, concerns about the way the project is being managed, the workmanship or the decisions about double glazing and kitchens come to the Open Meeting. Russell Prett or Jean Uzoma of the Residents Involvement Team will try to answer them. Or you could also contact the secretary, Mandy Henry at 24A, Wilson Road or Dan the Works Supervisor on 07957 4852109.
  • PARKING

Everyone living in our streets must have noticed that it is becoming increasingly hard to park, especially during the day when we become a car park for commuters, visitors to the Science Centre, students and staff at the Art College and employees of the Town Hall. The Committee of the Association has therefore decided to investigate Residents Parking. It would also be very helpful if everyone in the Wilson’s Residents Association area could park as considerately as possible. If we all park neatly and do not take up more room than we need we will be able to fit more cars in.
  • Re-instate the traffic Island at the end of Camberwell Grove, where it joins Camberwell Church Street. Despite the promises of Transport for London, who removed the traffic island, during the creation of the 'Red Route' it still has not been restored so we will continue to campaign with the help of Cllr Ian Wingfield.
