CURRENT CAMPAIGNS

  • MARINA HOUSE
Harriet Harman has failed to respond to our letters of concern about the decision taken by a House of Commons Committee to use Marina House as one of two trial sites for the direct injection of addicts with heroine. The House of Commons committee were told that there had been public consultation with the community before the trial was authorised to start. This was untrue there was no public or private consultation with the community, our ward councillors did not even know the trial was being introduced.
  • The next meeting will be the Annual General Meeting at 7pm on Thursday 16th June 2005 in the Lettsom TA Hall, Vestry Road. We will be distributing a newsletter advertising it in due course - but put the date in your diary now. We need at least 16 people for a quorum so we can elect a new committee to carry on our good work next year.
  • Postal Services
The committee are actively complaining to the Post Office about the increasing number of wrong deliveries and missing pieces of mail. If you have any examples of missing post or mis-delivered post please tell the secretary Mandy Henry, 24a Wilson Road.
  • Public Lavatories
Rod Craig who represents the Wilsons Residents Association onthe Camberwell Sector Police Working Group has written to complain to Southwark Council about the lack of public lavatories in working order in Camberwell. This is a problem because of the large number of people living on the streets in Camberwell and the number of people passing through Camberwell as it is major bus junction.
  • Police Notices

The committee has deceided that the police notices which we asked PC Paul Back to have put up, no longer serve any useful purpose and actually give a very negative view of the area to outsiders. We will be writing to PC Back to ask for their removal.
  • Controlled Parking Zone

The committee have made inquires about introducing a Controlled Parking Zone in our streets. We need to back our request up with a petition which shows a support for a CPZ in the local community. We will start the petition at the Annual General Meeting.
  • Cleaner, Greener Camberwell We have been invited to put in another bid for a grant for a project in our local area which will make an enviromental improvement. Various ideas were discussed, although the committee were not hopeful, as last years scheme in Grace's Mews has still not been completed, and the minutes of the last Camberwell Community Council Meeting on 10th May reported that the bids were discussed, although the application form says we have until 18th June to put in our bid.
