CRIME NEWS

On the night of 26th/27th October (Friday/Saturday) another car had its windows broken and property stolen. It was a green Renault Clio, again parked at the regular crime hot spot outside the Education Centre on Wilson Road. Do not park there if at all possible, and warn your visitors not to park there. There are no houses near enough for residents to hear a window being broken.

BE VIGILANT

With Christmas fast approaching. The following scam has been confirmed by Royal Mail Fraud and is now brought to your attention.

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911(a premium rate number).

DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call. If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 02072396655 or ICSTIS (premium rate service regulator) at www.icstis.org.uk

CAMBERWELL LEISURE CENTRE
To make sure that Southwark Council has not forgetten the Camberwell Baths Campaign over the summer, they are planning to hold a Swimming March on Saturday 15 September. The March will leave Camberwell Green at about 11am, swim along Camberwell Church Street to Southwark Town Hall, and finishing in Lucas Gardens. They hope you will don flippers, goggles, and assorted yoga, gym, beach and swimwear to join them on the Swimming March. They hope to have lots of activities for kids at Camberwell Green from 10am, so please take the family along!

Here's how you can help:

Become a Member
Sadly there is a price to democracy, and they need to raise £400 to pay for insurance, St John's Ambulance etc. It is not a political march, but a public demonstration by the people of Camberwell (particularly primary school pupils and their parents) that they wish to have decent, accessible physical recreation facilities in the heart of the community.

They have formed an Association, and are inviting you to become a member of the Camberwell Baths Campaign. Membership is free, but they would very much welcome any contribution you feel you could make. Fill in the form (PDF version) and send it to Hugh Brown at the address shown.

Volunteer as a Steward
Do you have a First Aid qualification? Great, because they need to have between 10 and 15 people who would be willing to act as stewards on the march. You will get a nice orange armband to wear, and may be able to take turns with the loudhailer if Head Steward Bridget lets you. Email Helen Owen Helen Owen and let her know if you can help.

Help with Kids Activities
Handy with facepaints? Then maybe you could join the creative team on the Green. Again, email Helen Owen and let her know what you can do to help.

To find out how you can help support the Campaign, please contact info@camberwellbaths.org
for background reading see Helen Owen's History of the Camberwell Baths as a PDF document. For more information on the campaign see our Newsletter for June 2007
