As we celebrate the season Advent we look forward to Christmas, the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. Now is the time to give thanks for the many blessings and gifts we each have. It is an opportunity to share some of our gifts of time,
talent and treasure with others, in particular, our Parish community of Holy Cross.

Holy Cross has some needs. As of November 2002, we see that while our expenses are below budget, our actual income continues to remain much lower that budgeted resulting in a deficit at the current time.

For the period January to November 2002, our total collection revenue was $181,056. This compares to our budget of $187,664 (or 96%) for the same period. (This collection revenue relates to an average of $3,852 per week).

For the period January to November 2002, our total income was $202,745. This compares to our budget of $209,719 (or 97%) for the same period. Total income includes fundraising, interest and sundry revenue.  (Total incomes relates to an average of $4,313 per week)

For the period January to November 2002, our total expenses were $223,115. This compares to our budget of $225,784 (or 99%) for the same period  (Our expenses relate to an average cost of $4,747 per week.)

The result is that for this eleven-month period our deficit is $4,305 greater than budgeted.

In comparing our average weekly collection revenue with average weekly expenses, we see that we are short $895 per week or $3,580 per month. When we add in fundraising and sundry revenue the shortfall is reduced to $434 per week or $1,736 per month. We need to increase our weekly collection revenue to help offset our weekly expense cost.

A reminder that all your donations to Holy Cross Parish are classified as charitable donations and can be used as a deduction when you file your income tax for 2002. To count for 2002, all charitable donations must be in the church office by
noon Tuesday December 31st, 2002.

Get in the spirit of giving by donating more to charity and less to the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA).

One of the easiest ways to save money on your taxes is to give to your favourite cause.  Making charitable donations entitles you to a two-tier tax credit.  The first $200 in donations for the year (total to all charities) gives you a 16% federal tax credit, worth about 26% when provincial tax is taken into account.  All donations above $200 give you a 29% federal tax credit, worth about 47% when provincial tax is factored in.

You can claim donations that equal a maximum of 75% of your net income.  If you have excess donations or if you choose not to claim a donation in the year you made it, you can carry the donation forward and claim it in any of the following five years.  Make your donations by
Dec. 31, 2002 to claim them on your 2002 tax return.    We have donation receipts from previous years on file.  If you did not pick yours up, contact the office.
