About witch burning Everyone has witches Once upon a time, people burned witches whom they blamed their troubles on. Crops failed? Must have been a witch. Eventually, people realized this is just dumb. In our "enlightened" society, we're still looking for things to blame and ways to get rid of our troubles. Couple that with the love of burning things, and you have modern witch burnings. Our witch burnings started out with friends and a bonfire. And no, the friends weren't in the bonfire... yet. We started adding a meal, and suddenly we have an event. All that was needed at that time was costumes and we have our present "Witch Burning." It should be noted that this is in no way a religious, or even serious event. Nothing remotely resembling any pagan or anti-pagan practice is tied to this tradition. This is an all-ages party.
