Oatmeal has to be another of the pantry items
we should have on hand at all times.
I buy the cheapest brand
of old fashioned oats I can find.
It's an even better price in the bulk food section.
But it's not just for the kitchen.
The first time I used oatmeal, other than
for breakfast, was when my boys came down
with chicken pox at the same time.
They were miserable and I was too
because I felt so helpless.
I took a heavier white athletic sock,
filled it with oats, and tied it tightly at the top.
I ran a lukewarm bath, and let them soak
while they "played" with the sock.
It helped them soak longer, and the water
became cloudy as they wet the sock and began
squeezing it as they were playing.

Oatmeal is soothing, it's inexpensive,
it's safe and it tastes good.
