Darkover?
Darkover actually is the name of a planet invented by Marion Zimmer Bradley in 1958 when she startet the Darkover cyclus. It contains of several novels and short stories in the Fantasy world of Darkover.
MZB used this special planet to create a place that is strange enough to be fascinating and surprising. And that is similiar enough to our lives to feel familiar with the everyday problems of the inhabitans.
