
Working with Files
These instructions will help
you to work with graphic and text files using MS Word for
Windows at Wallenpaupack High School.
To save text files in Word
The file you want to save should be
open in Word already, and you have made changes you want
to save.

Go to File and Save AS :

First check the Folder is pointing to h:
-
Change Save as type: Plain text (*.txt)

Now give the file a name you will
remember, such as dates.txt. Remember
that for text files, you must end your file name in
.txt
To save graphics
-
Select the picture
-
Now place the mouse pointer on the picture
-
RIGHT-CLICK on the picture, a pop up menu should
appear
-
Select Save Image As ...
-
DO NOT change the file extension (it
will usually be .gif or .jpg), just give the part
before the period a different name if the current one
is not easy to remember

Click on OK
To open text files in
Word
-
Go to File and Open
-
If you have many files, change
the File of type: window to Text Files
-
Click on the correct file name
and then click on Open
-
Your file should open, delete
any extra stuff that is on your screen

Type your name and today's date
at the top of the page
To insert a picture or graphic
into a MS Word document
-
Place your cursor at the place
on the page you want your picture to appear.

Go to Insert and Picture
-
Select From File
-
Click on the name of your picture,
click on insert
-
You may resize your picture by
placing the arrow on the handles of the picture
-
When the double arrow appears,
click and drag to resize
-
You move by clicking on the middle
of the picture and dragging
