WFL VI
came with expansion (6 teams to 10 teams), an initiation of a Bowl Post-Season
with Polls and Rankings, and the current WFL Champ (GM Castro) resigning. That
left the World Bowl Championship wide-open for a new National Champion! The
biggest surprise, was that the WFL left the NFL
Europe teams and came back home to the NFL
teams. The season kicked-off in November 2002, using Madden
2003. This season was destined to be the best season ever. Every WFL GM, "old"
and "new" was excited about starting this season with a new version of Madden.
Here are the teams and owners:
Swammp Div.: Texans-K. Bulls,
Raiders-R. Williams, Cowboys-V. Taylor, Jaguars-W.
Ramirez, Redskins-D. Merrit
Cammp Div.: Bears-J.
Ramirez, Steelers-M. Hilgar, Packers-G. Patterson, Jets-J.
Diaz, Eagles-M. Payne
WFL VI
was a great success! The Polls and Rankings added to the tension and stress to
obtain a bid to the World Bowl (#1-Texans vs
#2-Jags). The Swammp
Bowl (#3-Cowboys vs #4-Steelers) and the Cammp
Bowl (#5-Jets vs #6-Raiders) added extra incentives for a GM
to not only win a ring and a trophy, but Bowl points that can be used to improve
their team and players. The WFL would see a familiar family as the National
Champions...the Bulls Family, Texans, won their 2nd WFL Ring by winning
the coveted World Bowl. Two more rings and
trophies were handed out; the Steelers won the Swammp
Bowl and the Raiders won the Cammp
Bowl. Final Standings: Texans (8-2),
Jags (7-3), Steelers (7-3), Cowboys (6-4),
Jets (6-4) , Raiders (4-6), Redskins (4-5), Packers
(2-7), Eagles (2-7), and Bears (2-7).
WFL VII
saw their second and last season in the United
States.
WFL HQ's made the announcement that the WFL will go
back to
Europe
next season, due lack of commitment of owners and started
the season in January 2003. This
season saw 4 different owners come and go. But the WFL
represents the phrase..."The show must go on!"
Making some quick adjustments, the league made a decision
that everyone will go to the post season, however, a
double elimination Tourney will be played .
Here are the teams and owners:
Swammp Div.: Texans-K. Bulls,
Raiders-R. Williams, Cowboys-V. Taylor
Cammp Div.: Dolphins-C. Castro, Steelers-M. Hilgar,
Jets-J.
Diaz, Eagles-R. Bowen
The Tourney was very tense and interesting. The #7 seed Eagles upsetted the #2 Dolphins in the 1st round and the #5
Raiders upsetted the #1 Steelers in the 2nd. The defending
Champs, #3 Texans flew under the radar and reached the
WFL Championship game. The Dolphins Coach Castro was
making their come-back season very interesting by chanllenging
the Texans in the WFL VII Bowl game however, once again
Coach Castro annouced that he would once again retire...win,
lose, or draw. WFL VII Bowl saw the 2 previous winners
of the WFL Bowl and also both Coaches had two WFL Titles.
This was a game for the ages, however, Coach Bulls and
his Texans were two strong for the Dolphins and
defeated them in the 1st game 37-14. Making the Bulls
Foundation the 2nd back-to-back Champions and a chance
for a 3-peat. Final Standings: Texans (15-5),
Dolphins (15-5), Steelers (15-5), Raiders (13-8),
Jets (9-9), Cowboys (7-11), and Eagles (7-12).
This
was probably the most contraversal season in WFL
history! WFL VIII
kicked off the spring season in April 2003. Once again
an owner dropped and once again GM Castro jumped in
taking over the 0-3 Thunder team. The SWAMP
CAMMP
Tourney
was announced. It was an interival tourney between the
DFW
vs the WFL,
but it
faltered with the WFL
representing
and
leading the tourney 160 points to 130 points. And finally
the infamous playbook scandal where it was learned that
a team was able to select their desired offensive and
defensive playbooks of their choice...the only problem is
that not all the teams were privileged to this information.
But as usual, as the WFL
has done throughout the years...the league pushed on
finishing up the M2K3 version!
Admirals-Ken Bulls,
Dragons-Ronard Williams, Thunder-Carlos Castro
Fire-Vern
Taylor, Claymores-Mike Hilgar, Galaxy-Ron Bowen
WFL VIII ended with the Admirals falling short of a perfect
season and a 3-peat. Opting to go for the win with 23
seconds left the Admirals failed to convert a
2 point conversion. The Galaxy, who earned their first
ever WFL Bowl
Championship, upsetted the
Admirals 38-37. Despite the playbook
epsisode the Galaxy earned a ring for the City
of Frankfurt! Final
Standings: , Admirals (12-1), Galaxy (9-3) , Fire (6-5), Claymores
(5-6),
Thunder (2-8),
and Dragons (0-10).
WFL
Season IX
WFL
IX kicked-off in September
2003, using Madden 2004. This season went back to the oldschool Europe
players. WFL IX
started with the following 6 teams and
owners:
Admirals-Ken Bulls,
Dragons-Ronard Williams, Thunder-Carlos Castro
Fire-Vern
Taylor, Claymores-Mike Hilgar, Galaxy-Ron Bowen
Once
again Coach Castro resigned his position in the league.
His reasons were not disclosed. In WFL X the Thunder will
be coached by Coach Diaz. The Fire found their way back
into the WFL Bowl. It has been a long hiatus and they
were victorious,
upsetting the Admirals. The Admirals
finished at 8-2, the Fire finished
at 6-4, the Claymores finished at 5-4, the Galaxy finshed at 1-7, the
Dragons finshed at 3-6, and theThunder's
record was not accumulated.
WFL
Season X
The
WFL
jumped into their 10th season...where does the time
go?
WFL
IX kicked-off in January
2004, using Madden 2004. This finished the season with the following 6 teams and
owners:
Admirals-Ken Bulls,
Dragons-Ronard Williams, Thunder-Jose Diaz
Fire-Vern
Taylor, Claymores-Mike Hilgar, Galaxy-Ron Bowen
Coach
Diaz rejoined the league after the retirement of Coach
Castro. He is no stranger to the Swammp Cammp and he
came ready to play and was more interested in getting
back into to the Madden groove.
Coach Williams and the Dragons won
their first ever WFL Championship and look forward to
defending the title next season. Being 1-for-1 in the big dance
is not bad at all. The Admirals
finished at 7-4, the Fire finished
at 4-6, the Claymores finished at 8-4, the Galaxy finshed at 6-4, the
Dragons finshed at 7-5, and theThunder
finshed at 3-7.
WFL
Season XI
How
time flies as the
WFL
moved into their 11th season. However, the season took
a turn and for the first time, the league shorten the
season.
WFL
XI kicked-off in
late March 2004, using Madden 2004. The following owners
finished the season:
Admirals-Ken Bulls,
Dragons-Ronard Williams, Thunder-Jose Diaz
Fire-Vern
Taylor, Claymores-Mike Hilgar, Galaxy-Ron Bowen
Coach
Diaz could not complete the season and as with all the
Thunder coaches...he eventually retired. Despite
the shorten season, the Admirals showed their
dominance by going undefeated and winning their 4th
WFL Championship. The anticipation for M2K5 is higher
than ever and as with every season...its gets more and
more exciting! The Admirals
finished at 7-0, the Fire finished
at 2-5, the Claymores finished at 5-2, the Galaxy finshed at 0-5, the
Dragons finshed at 2-5, and theThunder
finshed at 0-5.
