Loch Ness and Ft. Augustus
June 15, 2000
We continued up the Great Glen to Ft. Augustus which is on the southwest tip of Loch Ness. The Caledonian Canal connects Inverness with the Atlantic cuts through the town linking Loch Ness with Loch Lochy (no I'm not making this name up). The canal is still used today, mostly for pleasure craft.
We took a brief cruise aboard the Royal Scot to look for Nessie and take some pictures.
After the cruise, we visited the Clansmen Centre for an exhibition set in a replica of a turf-roofed stone croft. The interactive presentation covers 17th Century Highland life, clothing, and weapons. Since, we were the only visitors, one of us got to take part in the audience participation phase of the show. Unlike the staff of the Wallace Monument in Stirling, which we visited in 1995, the Clansmen Centre folks were not very keen about the Mel Gibson movie Braveheart
Wally as a Highlander
