Many of the established Kindred clans are represented in the city year-round. Visitors from the north, Central and South America, as well as Europe dock at Miami's port for a few days of debauchery, business or both, thus creating the myth that Miami is vampire-infested.
The truth is that only a handful of clans are represented well enough to be called a clan. Between visitors and clan rivalries all but maybe one or two of the lesser-known bloodlines have any kind of representation in the city at one time or another. Regardless of numbers or status, though, any Kindred that steps into Miami is already involved in the eternal power struggle for the city, knowingly or unknowingly.
The major clans of the city are:
- Toreador
- Ventrue
- Brujah
- Nosferatu
- Lasombra
These are the clans that have the most members and hold the most power, either by words, muscle or both, openly or from the shadows.
It should be noted that this is not as clear-cut as it seems. Miami is a battleground between the Camarilla and the Sabbat, with neither group having a real foothold on the city. Alliances shift and turn, and at times even the two groups have had to put their differences aside to deal with mutual threats. These times have, of course, been few and short-lived.
At present, the city stands still. The Camarilla faction has regained some of its former power under the leadership of Anastasia. Thus, the current clans under this faction are: the Toreador and the Ventrue, with a small faction of Gangrels roaming the area and a small band of Brujah who survived the culling roaming around the city--not actually allied with the Toreadors, but with no love for the Sabbat either. A small assortment of individual Kindred also has allied themselves with Anastasia, including one wandering Ravnos, and three survivors of the Tremere massacre.
The Sabbat, also having regained some of its former glory in Miami, is under the control of Diego. The Lasombra, ancient leaders of the Sabbat, have repopulated the shadows of Miami to a degree, thus giving Diego the backup he needed. Alongside the Keepers, factions of Nosferatu antitribu have pledged their services to the Sabbat, in rebellion against the ways of the Camarilla. Less organized, but allies to a level, are the remnants of the Brujah antitribu rebels who tried to (and nearly did) take control of the city. A handful of other individual vampires are also allied with Diego and the Sabbat, including one mysterious Tzimisce who answers only to the Lasombra leader and a small cabal of Tremere who escaped their judgement after their treason to the clan.
