A very beautiful woman of dark tresses and cat-like gray eyes, Nina is an alluring woman possessed of a wonderful grace, infused with sharpness that is both exciting and frightening. Pale and luminous, she seems an angelic vision caught in the body of a mortal, the dark colors she favors only accentuating her inner glow.
Nina was born in London, April 28, 1971. However, by her second birthday she had already moved to the states with her mum. She never knew who her father was, and to this day she has never learned anything about him from her mother either. As a child she made up countless stories around him, her favorite being that he was a Spanish gypsy who had met and ravished her young mother only to die days later in a knife-fight against a rival for the young woman's affections.
Her mother, a rather frivolous character, often left Nina alone with her thoughts and stories, which was often all she had. Nina and her mother traveled to New York, Boston, Los Angeles and small towns down the East Coast, always on the move, never staying in one place for too long. Nina's mother just had a liking to travelling, but this wreaked havoc in the young girl.
Nina never went to the same school twice, and never for more than a year or two, which made her close up to people. Why let them get close to you if you're going to lose them soon anyway? was what she thought. To this effect, Nina developed an uncanny ability to, as she calls it, re-invent herself, every time she arrived at a new destination. Her streak for the dramatic grew, and she joined drama clubs wherever she went, waking up every morning and asking herself, "Who will I be today?"
This changed when she arrived to Miami. Here she met Gloria and Marie, and after striking a heaven-sent friendship with them, the couple asked Nina to move in with them, which she did. She felt that for once in her life she had a true home and friends; nothing could be better. Then she met Michael.
He was, in so many words, "the One" she had so many times read about but always doubted existed. He was charming, caring, the sweetest vision to her eyes. They started dating almost immediately, and before long they had fallen in love.
All was well for a while, fooling both young lovers that all was truly well and they had all they needed. Then Fate dealt a new hand. In one of their outings, Nina and Michael met a new friend, the tall and imposing Kolya. A native of Ukraine, Kolya had made Miami his home and made friends fast. Once he met Nina, she dazzled him...and he dazzled her. They met at times, at cafes, where they talked about their travels, at museums and galleries, where Kolya introduced Nina to a world she hadn't known before. They, in fact, became best friends.
After a couple of months, Nina met with Kolya at the Biltmore for a charity presentation of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." After the drama was over, Kolya and Nina walked for a while around the Biltmore's enchanting gardens. Kolya spoke of times far away, of ideals few strive for, of beauties unimaginable. Nina was dazzled. To this date she's still not sure of exactly what was said, but Kolya offered a chance to show this world to her, to bring her over to the other side of reality. She accepted.
The Embrace was sweet and delirious, as well as painful and horrendous. Kolya's lips at her neck drained her of every drop of blood in her body, and yet she felt more in ecstasy than ever before. Drinking from Kolya's wrist, the bittersweet taste of his blood in her mouth, infusing her almost dead body with a new kind of fire, a new life. When she opened her eyes for the first time a few minutes later, she saw the world through the eyes of a newborn. The new senses in her made all come alive, and she would've been overwhelmed by her surroundings had Kolya not been there to break her rapture and provide guidance.
Nina was Born to Darkness in 1990, at the age of 19. It is now 1997, and even though she has been a vampire for just 7 years, Nina already harbors secrets and dark stories that have changed her for eternity...
