At the forefront of Miami lies South Beach, the hottest place on Earth at the moment. It's Art Deco arches and lines greet the visitors as well as the residents that fill the streets every single night. Beautiful people make this little island their home, promoting the myth that only beautiful people are to be found in Miami Beach. Clubs line the sidewalks of Collins Ave. and Ocean Drive, providing hours or days of entertainment for those with stamina enough to withstand it, while bars and joints hidden in holes in the wall cater to the rest of humaniy. Famous designers and personalities walk side by side with common folk and vagabonds in South Beach; obviously this is a Kindred's town.
The trendy atmosphere of South Beach, with its high fashion and superficiality, is the domain of the Toreador, and has been since the city became the hotspot it now is (partly due to the Toreadors, to begin with). During its ilustrious history, South Beach has always been a place for gatherings of the rich and famous, and on and off the Kindred have had their hands in the afairs of the seaside city, mostly in the form of bussiness like hotels and restaurants where the stars and nobility came to be seen. It is no surprise that, even today, and especially today, the Toreador have the strongest hold on the city, caring for it like a mother cares for her child.
Many Kindred make Miami Beach their permanent home, Toreador and otherwise. Most keep their havens secret, but permanent residents are items to be displayed to impress newcomers and other residents, vampires and mortals alike. The true importance of South Beach, however, is not the fact that many of the city's vampires reside there, but that it contains the power base of the Toreador, as well as the obligatory Kindred club, in this case, The Darkness. It is here that, under the laws of Elysium, Kindred congregate to be see and be seen, to argue, discuss and close plans and pacts, where wars start and end, where cutting-edge music masks the sounds of mortals' bliss as they experience the unique sensation of a vampire's feed.
"Whomever controls Elysium controls peace in the city; and whomever controls peace also controls war." An Prince of the Old Kingdom once said this, and nowhere on Earth does it hold more true than in Miami. It is the presence of this haven for all Kindred that makes South Beach so important to Miami, both as a mortal city and as a vampire enclave. And the Toreador definitely control South Beach.
