It all began on Homecoming day at the Pan-Cake breakfast, which the Booster Club put on prior to all of our home Football Games. The Football Players ate first, as the Coach did not want us puking during the game, although some of us lost our breakfasts during the game anyways!
During the Breakfast, people began commenting on the curious flavor of the Pan-Cakes. It's not that the Pan-Cakes tasted awful, but there was something just not right about them. The Team finished their Breakfasts and it was off to prepare for the Big Game.
During the Football game, many of the players began belching some nasty smelling burps, and this was only the beginning. I personally recall standing in the huddle and someone wafting the nastiest fart I have ever smelled, including those of my infant children! It was obvious to some of the players that something had gone critically wrong with the Pan-Cake batter recipe, but what and who was the question.
It was not until after our Yearbook came out, that we discovered what may have happened that fateful day. The picture above, is a Yearbook photograph of a kid who was not in our class, but who loved to help at School functions. His name was Mike Roberts, who I have now dubbed, "Garlic Man". The following is the True and untold story of what happened...
Mike was given the task of mixing the Pan-Cake batter, and as evident by this Photograph, none of the Boosters were watching him. (This was to be a critical error by the Boosters). Mike must have decided on his own, that the batter needed more flavoring and somehow got his hands on some powdered garlic instead. The amount of garlic he added was just enough to evade the detection of the tastebuds, but not the stomach.
I still wonder if we would have won our homecoming if Mike had not tainted the batter? Colfax had to be effected by the stench which was emanating from the opponents huddle. I guess we will never know. I am almost certain that Mike helped us a little in our first Homecoming win in twelve years.
Here's a belated thank you Mike!

Many of you may not have ever heard the story behind the picture on your right. It is a true story, and if you don't believe me, you can ask some of the others who played in our Homecoming game against the Colfax Falcons. (The first Homecoming Victory in twelve years I might add).
