I was born on May 21, 1977 in New Jersey. Since I was ten I've moved several times, because of my dad's job. I lived in New Jersey from 1977-1987, Texas from 1988-1990, California from 1990-1994, again in New Jersey from 1994-2000 and in Virginia since 2000. I have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which is a genetic disorder affecting the muscles and requires me to use a motorized wheelchair. Further information about my disability is available on my Disability Page. I graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania on December 18, 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. Currently, I keep myself fairly busy with many activities. I am a member of the Alexandria Commission on Persons with Disabilities, to which I was appointed in February 2003. The ACPD helps the city develop programs for people with disabilities, ensure public facilities are accessible and promote awareness of disability issues. I Chair the Commission's Website Development Committee and am a member of the Accessibility Enhancement Committee and Public Awareness Committee. Due to having DMD I have gotten involved in promoting what I call Prolonged Survival, which is basically proving doctors wrong about life expectancy for people with DMD. To that end, I operate the DMD Pioneers Mailing List (for people with DMD) and the NIV Users Group (for people using noninvasive respiratory assistance). Discussions in the former group led to the development of the DMD Pioneers website and the beginning of the Ask the DMD Pioneer Chat held at the Muscular Dystrophy Association website. I also assist in moderating the DMD Support List and MD-List. There's plenty more: |
