I consider myself lucky to have friends of many ages and upbringings. Moving around the country I've met many people and made many friends, some of which I've stayed in touch with for many years. I've split this section into two separate parts, School Friends and Other Friends (these are simply friends from outside my college experience). School FriendsAs a student at Edinboro University I had the opportunity to make many friends. I'm lucky that I had the opportunity to meet a very diverse number of people and hope to remain in contact with them. Disabled FriendsA good number of my friends happen to be disabled, this is mainly because we lived on the same floor of Shafer Hall (below), my college Residence Hall.
My three best friends from school would have to be Scott Nielsen, Jon Gaddis, and John Hayes. Scott is a former neighbor (at school), who manages to find a humorous side of any situation, he graduated in May, 2000. Jon G. is probably the craziest person I know, but that just makes life more interesting. He graduated with me, and is attending Edinboro as a graduate student. John H. lived across the hall at school, he loves playing drums and listens to classic rock and some other music I'm not terribly fond of. Other good friends include Scott Fenn, Adam Kormanski,Mike Oelke, Lee Prindle, and Dan Tomkiewicz. Scott is a resident computer expert and probably the worst driver I've ever met (no offense intended, Scott). Adam is the one people go to, to talk about nearly anything and if you have a theological question, he probably has the answer. Mike is the biggest Detroit Red Wings fan I've ever met and is the one who got me hooked on Jeopardy. Both Adam and Mike graduated with me; Mike is attending graduate school at Edinboro, also. Lee graduated from Edinboro and is an excellent photographer (WebSite). Dan graduated in May of 1998; he is probably the most laid-back person I know.
Non-Disabled FriendsSome of these friends are Personal Care Workers (PC's) and others I just know, either way they're friends. PCs are the people who assist the disabled students, such as myself. These friends include Mike Stepniak, Stacey Hallock, and Brian McCarthy. Mike (a.k.a. Polish Mike), who is a native of Poland, graduated in May, 1999. He was a PC for 4 years and our floor's Resident Assistant for one year, also he is one of the smartest and hardest working people I know. He is studying for his MBA at Memphis State University in Tennessee. Stacey was a PC for about 2 years; she graduated in May 2000, and was the editor of the Edinboro University Spectator. She is now a staff writer for the Beaver County Times in Pennsylvania. She is also, the only person in the world who can laugh at anything (I know!). Brian is another hard working PC, who is a little hard to get used to, but he's okay once you get to know him. Other friends from school include Tiffany Wiley, Raina Cullinan, Stephanie and April More, and Tara Viola; all of whom I met as mealaides (who are provided for disabled students in our schools cafeteria). A few other people I am friendly with include Alethea Heinrich and Liz Foraker.
Other FriendsI've also made many friends through my parents. They include Gene, Sue, and Resie Caffrey; Karen and Tom Hyland; the Kenney family (of California); Barbara and John Ward, and their daughter; and Charlie and Lulu Weschler. |
