Notes on the Black Spiral Dancers |
"He who fights monsters should be careful lest he thereby becomes a monster. And if thou gaze long into the abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee" -- Frederich Nietzsche

Not just another ugly faceContrary to popular belief, the Black Spiral Dancers are not a herd of giggling, drooling moon calves, though there are those among them. They are far worse; they represent, but for the grace of Gaia, the Garou's future. They are a dark reflection of the Warriors of Gaia, and are every bit the capable werewolves. One might suspect the true reason the Garou hate their fallen brothers and sisters is not because they are an affront to all things pure, because they are the twisted spoor of the Wyrm, but rather because they know within their hearts that the Spiral Dancers are right. Gaia is dead. The Garou should embrace the Gift given them by her - Rage - for all that it is worth. They should embrace the beast within, rather than denying their true natures, for that is the way of Man. And all know that Man is of the Weaver, and ultimately responsible for the loss of balance in the world. By strict adherence to the old ways, resisting change, the Gaians enable the Weaver to cast her webs long and far. By protecting Man, they protect her minions. Warriors, say the Dancers of the Shattered Path, hear the call! Let go the corpse you hold to your breasts and seek the beast within your hearts. Let loose your fury for it is great and powerful. Indulge the Wolf, they say, and recreate the world! "Every encounter that a werewolf has with a member
of the Tribe of the Fallen should leave the Garou with a distinct sense,
not only of mortality, but a fairly solid recognition of just how far
a werewolf can fall. The Black Spirals should not simply represent a target
for the sake of combat, nor should they serve as a simplistic form for
the enemy. The BSDs represent what the Garou should consider an omen
of death, plain and simple. Not just death of the body, but the death
of the mind and of the soul. They are the death of purity and of hope.
They are the death of the dreams cherished by the Garou Nation and the
horror and uncertainty of death staring back from the faces of the long
lost brothers or sisters. No Garou should feel comfortable staring down
a Black Spiral Dancer. To look into the eyes of one of the Fallen Tribe
is to experience what waits should the war against the coming Apocalypse
be lost. In many ways, the Black Spiral Dancers represent everything that
the Gaian Garou fights to stave off every single day of her life."
But why? It is a battle already lost... Wisdom is shown in accepting what one cannot change. "While the "shoot first, asks questions later"
attitude of many Garou in some cases is effective, where the Black Spiral
Dancers are concerned, this should generally be conveyed as a grievous
mistake. While the BSDs may be nothing more than dark, hollow reflections
of Garou in the eyes of the werewolves that encounter them, they are most
certainly their brothers' keepers. Having the immediate advantage in numbers
is bad enough, but also having the same strategic expertise as their Gaian
enemies where pack tactics are concerned, the Black Spiral Dancers are
not a physical threat to be taken lightly. Unlike most vampires or hunters,
the BSDs can meet the Garou on any level they have to, including toe-to-toe.
The Dancers can (and should) do pretty much anything that the Gaians can
do. They have Gifts, just like the Garou. They call upon their totems,
just like the Garou. They can reach into the Umbra, just like the Garou
and they are every bit as strong, every bit as cunning and every bit as
ferocious as the Gaian Garou themselves. One thing that should be kept
in mind when running combat between Gaians and BSDs is the complete and
total abandon that the Dancers can give into regarding their Rage. The
Dancers are the children of the Wyrm and their Rage is a gift from the
Beast of War. The further they journey towards the snarling, frenzied
beast that Gaian Garou subconsciously fear and consciously seek to suppress,
the more powerful and formidable they become in a combat scenario." The

He then channels the energies of the Delirium to construct an alternate memory. The torturous experience must continue for at least 10 minutes. The survivor cannot remember how she was victimized, but still has glimpses of the experience. Unfortunately, the victim can burn a point of Willpower to dredge up a vivid glimpse of the horrific event.
