"The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness."
-- John Muir

What's all this Wyrm business anyway?

Okay, so you have no clue who the Wyrm is, much less the Weaver, the Wyld or Gaia. Here it is in a nutshell:

Gaia - Mother Nature; the natural world
Wyld - the demiurge;Chaos; enthalpy
Weaver - Order, stasis
Wyrm - Breakdown; entropy

The "Triat" or the Wyld, Weaver and the Wyrm are, in the Garou "religion", all necessary parts in the functional system that is Nature, the life cycle. The Wyld spawns energy and change, the Weaver takes that and makes it into something stable and functional. The Wyrm, before the world went out of balance, was merely the necessary "death" of all things. If left to their own devices the Wyld and Weaver would keep spewing out more and more and more.... The Wyrm kept one from dominating the other by undoing the work of each, by causing the death of some it opened the way of life to others.

Then something bad happened.

What it was is subject to debate. Some say the Weaver went mad with power and sought to bind the Wyrm, angry that he was undoing her work. Thus bound, the Wyrm went mad. Others claim that the Wyrm went insane, destroying and corrupting all it could and that the Weaver, by necessity, bound him within her web. The end result is the same: The Weaver gains power in the world today and the Wyrm, caught up in her lines, is deranged. Now rather than simply dealing clean death, he corrupts and poisons the land, touching all that he can with his corrosion. Of course, there are those who doubt even that and see the Wyrm as the savior of all. The Wyld's force in the world has declined though not ceased. No, not yet.

And there you have the short version. There are all sorts of other complications to consider: The Wyrm's own triatic nature, The Garou Nation's disagreement about the status of the Weaver, the Impergium, and the War of Rage, in which the Garou nearly decimated all other shifters. The Garou Nation hasn't an easy task ahead of it, and it may already be too late. Fallen to hubris and dissension, they may already be the Wyrm's children. They simply fail to recognize it.
