Hi! I'm Spook. You met me on the All in the Family page. I was listed as the Baby in the family. Well I'm all grown up now and I have a job. Yes a J-O-B!!! I'm what they call a Service Dog. Actually I am a Medical Alert & Responce Dog. My Mom has some pretty bad allergies and gets really sick when she has an allergic reaction. It's something called anaphylactic shock, or something like that. I just know I don't like when it happens. I get really worried about her and wont leave her alone until she gets to the phone to call for help and gets to take her shot from her Epipen which helps her breath better until the ambulance arrives. This summer we had a really scarey experience. Mom was working in the rose garden. (we play in the gardens a lot) Well all of a sudden there was a swarm of yellowjackets and one of them stung her on the hand. Well I know what happens when Mom gets stung. I kept following her around as we went in to the house. She was getting really funny looking and not talking right. She was sweating really bad and real dizzy. All of a sudden, Mom fell on the floor. Boy was I scared!! But I knew if she just stayed there that she wouldn't get any better and probably worse. I started licking her face, pulling on her shirt and barking up a storm. FINALLY she woke up!! I kept barking and licking her face until she crawled to the phone and called 911 and then crawled to the other room to get her Epipen. She then made me go into my kennel, which I really didn't want to do cuz I knew she wasn't ok yet. She had a heck of a bump on the back of her head and it was bleeding where she had hit it when she fell. But I went into my kennel and waited for Dad to come get me. Mom came home from the hospital later and I was so happy to see her. I stayed with her the rest of the day, I didn't even take Dad out to play like I do a LOT! I am now able to go to work with Mom. It's the law that I can go with her ANYWHERE but somepeople still give us a hard time about it. I even wear this really cool vest that says I suppose to be with Mom but some people still don't listen. Mom will read them the riot-act when they don't. I mean it's not like I miss behave or anything. Some people say that I am better well behaved than some of the kids that come in to their businesses. I don't know, I think kids are pretty cool. Mom takes me to PetSmart when I'm not on duty and I play with the kids there. We have a neighbor who has 2 young Great-Grandsons and I play with them too. If they aren't there I find whoever is around and have them throw my Flippy(frisbee). I play all the time but trust me, I always have my eye on Mom. If she leaves from where I left her, I go find her real fast. Who knows when she will need me? Oh yeah, I'm going to be on TV. The story of what happen to mom this summer was on the PaxTv program MIRACLE PETS on February 18, 2002. They came here and took my picture and talked to Mom. They even took pictures of me playing with my flippy and walking in the graveyard |
