Frequently Asked Questions

Does Womenlead give free legal assistance to all women ?

Yes, Womenlead gives free legal assistance to women. However, not all women and not all cases can be accepted by Womenlead for representation. Womenlead's Feminist Counseling & Legal Services Program has fixed parameters for case acceptance. Because the primary advocacy of Womenlead is Women's empowerment, only cases of Violence Against Women(VAW) such as rape, incest, domestic violence or partner abuse, sexual harassment, vagrancy and prostitution, trafficking and reproductive rights violations etc. are handled by Womenlead.

Likewise, Womenlead gives preference to indigent women. In cases wherein there is a novel question of law or a strategic issue of advocacy involved, non-indigent women can be accommodated although they may be expected to shoulder part of the expenses in litigation.

A Message from the Executive Director

Does Womenlead provide training and legal education ? Who may request for this service ?

Yes, Womenlead's Training and Legal Education Program provides training and legal education primarily to its partner communities (organized women in the communities and labor sector), as well as its survivor's network of women clients.

The Program can also give training and legal education, as well as provide resource speakers on request for a modest fee/honorarium. Depending on the status of the requesting community or organization, as well as the availability of schedules, the training and legal education may also be provided for free, with the minimum support of travel expenses from the requesting organization.

If Womenlead cannot accept a case for legal assistance, what are the options for the applicant ?

Womenlead tries its best to provide a referral whether from its network of alternative law groups or private practitioners. However, the acceptance of the case will still depend on the organization or lawyer to which applicants are referred for assistance.
