| Dr. Wright (latter changed into Dr. Light) and Dr. Wily in the year 20XX (XX means they won't tell) created a new line of robots. These robots could think and fell for themselves. The inventors created eight robots for different purposes in the world. Later Dr. Wily grew power hunger, sabotage six of the robots and tried to take over the world. |
| Dr. Wright | Creator of the eight utility Robots. He remodels Rock into Mega Man to battle Wily to save the world. (Latter he is known as Dr. Light. There is no "L" sound in the Japanese language. With interaction with other countries "L" and "R" have become analogous. Thus Dr. "Right" became Dr. "Light".) |

| Rock | This is first functional robot of the batch that was designed to be an assistant to the two doctors. Because of Wily's actions he chose to become a fight robot, renamed Mega Man. (This isn't revealed until Mega Man 4.) You see him in the credits when Mega Man sheds his armor. |
| Roll | The counter part to Rock she was designed for accompaniment (the "emotions" of the robots). You see her when Rock arrives home in the credits. |

| With the original NES there were two pauses in the game, Start with the Menu Screen and Select with a paused screen. If you hit something and pause with select the hit is registered and stopped. When you unpaused the shot would register again. So if you paused and unpaused quickly you can get multiple hits with one shot. This works extremely well with Elec Beam. |
| Hyper Bomb | shoot a bomb a short distance which explodes three seconds later |
| Fire Storm | A robot with heavy explosives to be used in construction to clear land sites and demolish building. Bomb Man will attack by throwing three bombs one at a time right where you are. Just walk away before they hit you. He'll jump very far and high to another place and repeat. Just dodge and hit him with Fire Storm when you get a chance until he's out. |

| Hyper Bomb | A robot with supreme power designed for moving heavy material and enforcing nature protection. Guts Man will hop around very slowly in his attack. If he hops in the same place a boulder will far and he'll wring it at you. Keep in mind when he touches the ground it will shake and immobile you for a time if you too are on it. Just hop around dodging the rocks and hit him three times with the Hyper Bomb. |
| Rolling Cutter | shoots a scissors that boomerangs in a short arc |
| Super Arm | A scissors robot designed in lumbering forests etc. First he throws his scissors at you. Jump over them when it comes towards you and back. When he catches them he will jump very high repeatedly but in a narrow range. While jumping he'll throw again. Repeat the attack wave. To beat him, use the Super Arm to throw the two blocks at him. That will be enough. If there are no blocks just use rapid fire Arm Cannon, he won't even get close. |

| Rolling Cutter | An electric robot designed for nuclear power and the running of electrical plants. His attack form is to run toward you while throwing his Elec Beam. If you shoot he'll jump (not very high). Use Rolling Cutter three times and he's history. The arc of the scissors should hit him when he jumps if you are on the ground. |
| Ice Slasher | shoots a ray that stops enemies and freezes fire |
| Elec Beam | This robot was capable at moving in sub-zero temperatures and was to research in Antarctica. He'll start by floating up slowly and spit out three Ice Slashers in a wave. Next he'll skate a short distance, jump and float down and spit another three Ice Slashers. Just shoot three Elec Beam quickly and he's gone. |
| Fire Storm | shoots a flame forward and to fire balls encircle you |
| Ice Slasher | He's designed for recycling metals and transforming them. Fireman is very fast and your first challenge (no three shot KO's). All the time he'll keep the same distance from you. If you move forward, he'll move back and vice versus. When he's at a stand still he'll shoot Fire Storm at you whenever he can. Meanwhile a small flame will be on the floor right where you are. Strategy, just keep firing Ice Slasher and jump forward. Still will keep the hot foot away and stop Fireman's attack while he adjusts. |
| Elec Beam | This monster will come and move side of screen to side of screen piece by piece. Dodge while you can. When it's whole, its eye will blink (the position changes wave after wave). Hit it with Elec Beam and do the trick. He'll proceed to move to the other side bit by bit again and repeat the wave. The actual robot doesn't hurt you so seek shelter in completed parts of it. |
| whatever | Wily makes a clone of you who shots at you and jumps occasionally. If you switch weapons so will he. Best strategy is to use the multiple hits trick with Elec beam but be careful not to be hit multiple times also, if you don't have the original game use basic agility. |
| Super Arm | A machine encased in a bubble will come out of a hole, and circle the edge of the room while shooting you periodically. If you defeat it a faster Bubble Machine will come out. Use Arm Cannon to kill the first few slow machines but then use Super Arm to throw the rocks in the room at the faster ones. |
| Elec Beam | Wily will come in a big contraption that will slowly move forward and back, while shooting bullets in an arc like water. The bullets are aimed for wherever you are at the time so dodge them and hit the cannon they are coming from. With the canon blown Wily is revealed and now shoots larger bullets that come toward you in spirals. Use Elec Beam on the red gem in from of Wily's windshield. |
| With the Dr. Wily's creations destroyed Mega Man sheds his armor to become Rock and goes home to Roll and Wright. The epilogue says that Mega Man will continue to fight world peace. |
