The city is attacked by super powered robots. During these attacks Dr. Light is kidnapped. Mega Man arrives to find a yellow scarf...Proto Man. |
Proto Man | After revealing himself at the end of Mega Man III. It seems that Mega Man's brother has some beef with Dr. Light. Can this be true? |

He returns to aid Mega Man, but abilities are slightly changed.

Beat | The new experimental bird robot Dr. Light was working on before his disappearance. When summoned Beat will attack all enemies by Mega Man. To get Beat collect the letters, one in each, round to spell Mega Man V. They all are plainly visible and require different dexterity. The only hidden one is in Stone Man's stage. When you come to a turn from going to the right to up and there is a Met and green pole-like robots shoot the wall. It will break and reveal the letter. |

Power Stone | shoots to round stones, one on each side of Mega Man, that spiral out in large arcs |
Napalm Bombs | If you more than half a screen away Stone Man will jump and use Power Stone. As he falls he will crumble. If you are closer than half a screen away he jumps and tries to land on you. Slide away and time how to drop your Napalm Bombs so they hit. |
Charge Kick | slide to ram into enemies and deal damage |
Power Stone | Charge man (a train) will attack like so, walk around, pause and then charge to the wall, walk around, turn red and shoot three red hot coals from his stack. Repeat. Use agility to avoid being run over by charge man and hit him with Power Stone. Be careful with aiming Power Stone. |
Water Wave | shoots a moving geyser than waxes and wanes in height |
Charge Kick | Wave Man will first put his canon into the ground and a geyser will appear where you are, slide. Next he shoots a harpoon, slide again, and then jumps to where you were. Aim your slides to hit Wave Man with Charge Kick or switch weapons so you can save its energy. |
Star Crash | creates a barrier of stars |
Water Wave | Star Man will activate his shield while on the ground and jump around slowly (since of the lesser gravity). When he's at the peak he'll shoot his stars at you, repeat. The Water Wave is able to go through the Star Crash so hit him when he's on the ground. |
Gravity Hold | deals damage to all robots on the screen, if the robot has no energy its gravity is reversed and it flies of the screen |
Star Crash | Gravity Man will always have reverse gravity of Mega Man. He'll jump, reverse gravity, shoot a bullet mid course and repeat. Use Star Crash and hit Gravity Man by being close to him when gravity shifts. |
Gyro Attack | shoots a helicopter blade, push up or down to make it change at the right angle |
Gravity Hold | Gravity Man (a helicopter) starts by shooting his propeller at Mega Man. He flies up then hides in the clouds, He then sends down a blade where Mega Man is so be ready to slide, which then moves horizontally off the screen. Then Gyro Man falls back into view where Mega Man is. Use Gravity Hold whenever Gyro Man is in view. |
Crystal Eye | shoots a large crystal which breaks into four bouncing crystals |
Gyro Attack | Crystal Man floats around slowly and creates four mini crystals around him. After some time he lets them loose and they bounce around the room. Dodge and counter with Gyro Attack. |
Napalm Bombs | shoots a bomb that rolls around the ground and explodes |
Crystal Eye | Napalm Man's attack starts by shooting to rounds of bombs, which explode right away, at Mega Man, slide. He then jumps where Mega Man is and have Mega Man dodge accordingly. Use Crystal Eye directly at Napalm Man. If you are more than half a screen away he'll shoot a horizontal laser. |
Water Wave | Dark Man in this form just paces the chamber and shoots is cannon. Fire Water Wave at him and jump over him and his shoots. Be prepared since he gets faster as he gets weaker. |
Crystal Eye | All Dark Man does is around the room trying to knock himself into you. Fire Crystal Eye and let its spread hit him. Again the weaker he is the faster he gets and the more damage he does. |
Gyro Attack | Now Dark Man adds jumps to his pacing and attacks. He has a Time Stopper ability so be prepared to be frozen and dodge quickly. Use Gyro Attack when you get the change and don't forget its vertical capabilities. |
Star Crash, Beat | All three attack styles all at the same time. His main robot weakness is Star Crash but that is a pain to pull off effectively. Summon Beat and let him worry about offensive, while Mega Man worries about defence. |
At the beginning of the battle, Proto Man reveals himself and proves his innocence. It turns out that Dark Man was posing as him at Wily's orders. |
Gyro Attack | ??? |
Star Crash, Mega Buster | Wily paces the ceiling waiting for the right moment to land right on top of Mega Man, however due to the spikes in the middle of the chamber he is also urging you to slip up. Wait on an edge of the spike pit. If Willy decide to fall an you, jump, about face, and fire. Repeat. |
Mega Buster, Super Arrow | He shoots bouncing balls, slide, homing missiles, shoot and does, and rams you against the room, slide to the other side. Use your skills and dodge and fire constantly, since this machine is vulnerable everywhere. |
Beat | He disappears and reappears, fire shots along the way. Again use Beat. Help it out by running Mega Man by Wily. Also Beat can detect where Wily will appear again so be prepared. |
After getting up from his knees Wily runs to Dr. Light's cage. Mega Man frees him and then chases after Wily. Suddenly the ceiling falls with the exploding and Mega Man braces it up. Wily slips out a secret passage and Dr. Light and Mega Man leave. Outside from a cliff Dr. Light and Mega Man watch the fortress explode unknowing of Proto Man watching too from another point. |
