THINGS I LEARNED IN THE BIVOUAC
(and not all of them are good...)

  1. how to work together as a team
  2. how to be resourceful
  3. how to sneak in prohibited objects
  4. how to start a fire
  5. how to take a bath without shampoo
  6. how to last 2 days without a brush - at least for some of us
  7. how to eat grass and dirt - mixed with the food
  8. not to sleep outside the tent...you'll wake up with bites all over your body
  9. the difficulty of scrubbing cooking utensils
  10. tomatoes, bread, and eggs never tasted so good
  11. how to curse either in Tagalog or English or even both
  12. how to live -even for a little while- without the technology of fans, phones, beepers, computers, etc.
  13. that our bivouac could have been a lot worse
  14. marching takes a lot of patience and practice - most of us still don't know how to do it well
  15. that the best cadette is a sergeant at heart...u know who u r
  16. the unity of the platoon depends upon the eagerness and ingenuity of all its members
  17. that one person affects everyone
  18. everything is a matter of perspective
  19. tents have very thin walls, so talk quietly
  20. we stick to our friends even if we are told not to
  21. a secret is a secret...you can't trust anyone else with it
