BULLETIN

St-Patrick’s Academy Old Boys Association Inc.

Dear Fellow Members:

Advent’s here and Christmas is coming. Our Christmas Party will be earlier this year and so naturally is this bulletin by which you are all invited. The date is December 9 at 6 P.M., the place is St-Patrick’s Church Hall. The menu, Turkey and all the fixings, tourtière and apple pie. Gerry Largy and Pierre Boucher will be looking after the catering and the cost will be $10 per person, liquid refreshments will be available for a reasonable extra cost. Guests and companions are welcome and this goes for our MND sisters who may be called upon to contribute with their singing voices. We’ll supply the music and maybe Webb Boilard will bring some of his instruments and play a tune or two. So remember Wednesday December 9th at 6 P.M. St-Patrick’s Church Hall Sherbrooke Quebec our annual Christmas Party.

Our good friend and director of the Association Ken Power is sick and has had an operation. While this may not be life-threatening it is serious and your prayers are requested for Ken’s recovery and future well-being. The Power brothers have been staunch supporters and close collaborators for as long as I have known them and have always come through with their help and suggestions when needed and we hope this will continue for a long time. They have been active for many years with the Montreal Live Steamers Corporation and at the October regular meeting our Association donated to their Corporation the QCR train bell which used to be over the former chapel now the Parker Building. It was felt that the bell would thus be put to good use and would be well looked after in this new home.

At the November meeting copies of the constitution and by-laws were passed around to the members present. At the annual general meeting last year some minor changes were made and the constitution was separated from the by-laws to make things clear and to use in our request for non-profit status. We have received no further news on this request from Ottawa and some think that we will need to seek consultation with a notary in order to be more specific as to the real nature of our activities and reason for existence and express them in a proper format. Also at this meeting a possible change in the name of the Association was expressed which would drop Old Boys in favour of Alumni to recognize that in the last years of the existence of St-Pats some of the graduates were girls! Some discussion was also held as to the future development of the Association based on the idea that maybe we should be looking at what in the way of sports equipment would be needed to reach our full potential as a camp for Summer and Winter recreational activities for children and families. With this in mind Camp Manager Albert Kinkead was asked to visit other camps in the area to see what they were offering in the way of equipment.

The Annual General Meeting will be held at the Elk’s Club on Montreal Street in Sherbrooke on Wednesday January 27th at 7 P.M. All members are welcome and as many as possible should attend. Year-end reports will be given and elections of officers for the new new year will take place. To be eligible a member must have his dews paid up and have attended 3 out of every 4 meetings for the previous year.

Those wishing to attend the Christmas Party should call Past President Solo Parker at 819-562-9904 in the Sherbrooke area and in Montreal Bill Power at 514-687-6439 on or before December 7th in order that a large enough turkey may be prepared.

Merry Christmas all and lets see you at the party.

John Murray, President
