WORLD OF GREYFEATHER

The Fourth Age - Age of Rebirth
(825 - current  A.R.)>

The fourth and current age of Greyfeather began with the coronation of Queen Samantha Kensak.  It was deemed the Age of Rebirth due to the fact that King Bife had ruled the land using terror and tyranny, but when Queen Samantha took the throne the terror and oppression ended, thus the land was reborn.

The gods chose Samantha Kensak to ascend to the throne after the Great Sundering.  As one of the heroes who had defeated Bife, she was an unknown Kensak heir, even to herself.  The only other surviving Kensak, Edward Robert Kensak XIV (Duke Kensak), the was found unfit to rule by the Greyfeather High Council due to past transgressions.  Samantha, landing on Greyfeather Island and thinking herself just one of the many refugees, instead found herself being named Queen.   Angry at being denied, Duke Kensak vowed vengeance and disappeared.  He has made his presence known through attacks and sabotage on Queen Samantha's kingdom, but she defeated him time and again.  Now, the island nation flourishes under her guidance and intelligence, a gem for all to see.  But lurking in the background, ready to strike at her, is her cousin, Duke Kensak, who plots to return from his exile.

In 870 A.R., Greyfeather was plunged into a war against the returning Shadow Queen , who was attempting to take the crown of Greyfeather by force.  After the defeat of the Shadow Queen, Queen Samantha Kensak decided that the land needed to be unified as it was when her grandfather, Kensak IV, was king, resulting in some changes to the land.

Her first order of business was to dissolve the Council of Twelve thus making her the solitary ruler of the entire land.  To do this, she stripped the provincial rulers of their sovereign rights and only kept them on as the provincial governor, limiting their control of passing edicts and laws that would directly conflict with royal law.  The racial monarchs, the elven kings, the dwarven king and the gnomish king, remained in control of their respective peoples, but Samantha regained absolute rule of Greyfeather as a whole.  Even though they still represented and ruled their people as they saw fit, she reserved the right to overrule them if it conflicted with royal law.

She saw a need in keeping the territorial boundaries as they were, making military adjustments much easier on her army, so she kept the names of the provinces as they were.  She assigned a contingent of royal soldiers to each province as a front line of defense and removed the right to raise an army by the provincial governors so that they could not mount an offensive against the crown.  All provincial military factions in each province, with the exception of the racial monarchies, were disbanded.

To make communications between the crown and each province easier, she assigned a royal ambassador to each and they answered only to the crown.  Embassies were built in each major city in each province to house these ambassadors and strict regulations were set up to ensure that local authorities would have a difficult time corrupting these emissaries.

And lastly, Samantha had each racial monarch swear an oath of fealty to the crown, stating that the Kensak family was once again the ruler of all of Greyfeather.  Reluctantly, they did so.
