Karla, from Minnesota, USA, was a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar at the University of Melbourne in Melbourne, Australia, in 1998.
She also received her bachelor's degree in communications and French from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.
Karla has a strong connection to Rotary: She was a Rotary Youth Exchange student to France during her high school years and also served as a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar to Australia in 1997-98.
Karla has volunteered for several different organizations, including teaching English to recent immigrants to the Minneapolis area.
She has also been extensively involved with the Peace Corps and has served on a mission to Zambia.
After completing her Rotary World Peace Scholarship, Karla hopes to pursue a career in conflict management and resolution.
