Syeda Uddin

Syeda, of Paterson, New Jersey, USA, completed her bachelor's degree in history and political science at Douglass college at Rutgers University. Douglass is the world's largest women's college. She has also completed her studies at Rutgers as a Master's candidate in the School of Public Policy before coming to Science Po. Her specialization has been international economic development. Her extracurricular activities at Douglass included membership in the Public Leadership Education Network (PLEN) a national consortium of women’s colleges working together to educate women for public leadership. PLEN believes that women’s participation is critical in shaping public policy in communities, the nation and the world. As a part of this interest she participated in the Hansard Scholars Program at the London School of Economics, where she had the opportunity to intern with a female member of the British Parliament. As a part of her studies, she has written a thesis on the evolution of Indian Population Control Policies since its independence.


Syeda has worked closely with a volunteer organization called Health Occupations Students of America, organizing blood and clothing drives in her community. In the last two years, Syeda has also been involved with a student-run organization called AIESEC, The worlds largest student organisation. AIESEC is a global network of 50,000 members across more than 83 countries and territories at more than 800 universities world-wide. The mission of AIESEC is to to contribute to the development of the members countries and their people with an overriding commitment to international understanding and co-operation. Syeda has helped students in NJ find international interships throughout the world through AIESEC. As a public policy student and Rotary World Peace Scholar, Syeda hopes to pursue a career in international development, with an emphasis on human rights and women's social issues.
