Our Channel HistoryInterestingly enough, this channel of "peace," #WorldTalk, was created not of a desire for adventure or discovery, but out of the problems and foul-ups that affected another channel: namely, #WorldCHAT. In February, 1996 Merist (original member of #WorldTalk) opened up a brand new channel to escape all the warring and fighting which had flared up in our "old" channel (#WorldCHAT). Within 5 minutes or so of her opening this channel one morning, Sebbie and several others were invited to join her. #WorldTalk was put aside when our old channel, #WorldCHAT, was regained and #WorldTalk would not resurface again until early April 1996 when a huge rift separated most of the members from our old home channel and caused us to travel en masse to join Merist in #WorldTalk. The new channel -- #WorldTalk -- flourished for awhile. To aid in keeping it a sanctuary for peace and quiet we attempted to control those who would have a voice in the running of the channel. Our channel founder, Merist, later became dis-enchanted with the channel and its following, and struck out to begin yet again, in a channel named #WorldWideChat. She continued to visit for a short time thereafter until she finally lost all interest in the channel and presented it to Sebbie to look after. Sebbie became the caretaker of the channel for quite a long time. He became a father figure, best friend, and entertainer of the channel to many of its OPs and members. Early in 1999 Sebbie began to experience IRC burnout and seldom came to the channel. He assigned the running of the channel to Vett. In June of 1999 Sebbie officially retired from IRC and handed the channel over to Vett who is still caretaker to this day. Over the years many people have made their home in #WorldTalk and became quite close friends with each other. Everyone seems to look out for each other and are always willing to help solve problems that arise. Occasionally there are mishaps in the channel. However, they are resolved as quickly as possible. There are no set rules in #WorldTalk, but generally the rule of RESPECT is followed. Everyone usually gets along and they are quite friendly. |
