- Form, method of instruction, benefits and cautions of 108 asanas (postures), 10 pranayamas (breathing techniques) and 6 kriyas (cleansing techniques)
- Learning to create various class-styles: Gentle, Intermediate and Power Hatha yoga
- Teaching methodology, including yoga for diverse ages and student groups, such as prenatal yoga, yoga for children, and yoga for the elderly
- Anatomy and the physical/mental benefits of yoga
- Subtle yogic anatomy and the Chakras
- Introduction to Ayurveda, nutrition, and the yogic diet
- Ashtanga philosophy (the eight-fold path)
- Study and discussion of the Bhagavad Gita one of the sacred texts describing yoga, and of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, aphorisms giving insight into profound yogic practices, as well as their life-transforming benefits
- Teaching practicum and feedback from the trainers

200-hour Yoga Teacher Training Course in the Himalayas
For those who would like to deepen their insights into the science of yoga and Ayurveda, as well as pursue teaching certification, this is an ideal opportunity. Imagine delving into an intensive 4-week training at an Ayurvedic and Yoga retreat center in the foothills of the Himalayas. Living in the ashram environment is the best way to truly integrate the yogic teachings into your life, and to be able to focus exclusively on yoga and teaching for one month. Teacher trainees will study 5 days a week and, on weekends, may go on guided tours to the holy cities of Haridwar and Rishikesh, visit the Kumbha Mela, and go on jungle treks and elephant rides. Those who choose not to attend the excursions may enjoy Ayurvedic treatments and the restorative atmosphere of the ashram.
Course Dates: February 11 to March 13, 2005
Fee: US$1850
Includes 200-hour certification course, manual, one yogic outfit, semi-private room at the ashram, 3 vegetarian meals per day, 2 week-end excursions, evening music programs, and airport pick-up/ drop-off.
Participants will be met at Delhi's Indira Gandhi National Airport and driven with other members of the group to Kanvashram, the Ayurvedic and Yoga retreat center, approximately 5 hours north-east of Delhi. A meal will be provided en-route. After the course, participants may choose either to be driven back to Delhi Airport or may be dropped of at a convenient location for further travel in India.
Ayurvedic Treatments: Restorative Ayurvedic treatments, such as an Ayurvedic massage or a Herbal steam bath may be booked and indulged in during the freetime hours. Ayurvedic consultations are available by appointment with Dr. Vishvpal Jayant (Yogiraj), renowned Ayurvedic doctor and founder of Kanvashram.
Excursions:
Enjoy cultural excursions on two weekends during the course.
Visit the holy city of Haridwar: Meet yogic saints, tour Hindu temples, explore artisan's markets, attend the musical sunset ceremony, Aarati, on the banks of the Ganges River.
Tour Rishikesh: City of Yoga. Explore the sandy shores of the Ganges River, and intimate local markets with a wealth of yogic books, healing gemstones, and other wares. Attend an intimate Aarati with drumming and collective chanting at which you can offer a small votive to the Ganges and watch the flames sail downstream. You may find yourself meditating amongst yogis and saints at sunset.

the best way to truly integrate the yogic teachings into your life, and to
be able to focus exclusively on yoga and teaching for one month. Teacher
trainees will study 5 days a week and, on weekends, may either explore the
hiking trails and lakes of the Gatineau Park or enjoy Ayurvedic treatments
and the restorative atmosphere of the gurukul.
