Macintosh Page

Aussie John Apologises! I know "under contruction" is lame, but I want a Mac page and if it's not up, there is no incentive to work on it and I'll never have one.

Just For Apple-Macintosh Users -Introduction

I  drive a Windows computer but I wanted to have a Apple Macintosh page to provide information useful to Macintosh owners. The best I have been able to do, is to add references to equivalent (or better!) Macintosh resources throughout the various pages.

What I have done on this page is list them as they appear on the various pages of the the website. This keeps the links in functional groupings and helps me keep my head straight.

I am adding extra links onto the end of the page as I find them as part of my own learning about Macs.

Finally I have grouped together from various sources, some images that are offered to keen Mac users to decorate their sites, provide links back to suppliers and show visitors they are part of the Mac community.

Just For Apple-Macintosh Users (From Budget Editors Page)

This page is a recent discovery and is not in the Budget Editor page (yet). It is (Nov 99) tips and tricks using BBEdit Pro some of which may or may not apply to Lite.

www.castillobueno.com Castillo TextEditor 940Kb(zip unzip?).
Has HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Visual Basic, C/C++, Java Perl, Pascal/Delphi and SQL syntax highlighting. Has a unique feature of special interest tor developers called PowerTag which allows the user to set tags to the selected text, without converting the program in a specialized HTML editor. The user can totally configure the tags. Has an internal clipboard with support for 100 Mb of text (cf Windows Notepad's 64Kb).

I say more in the Budget Editors page but one of it's many features is the ability to export text in Mac or Unix formats.

Many of the download sites have Mac software sections. Too many to duplicate here. Please refer to these download sites until I can find a dedicated Mac shareware/freeware software download site (if such a thing exits).

www.softronix.com
For a free copy of Turtle Tracks. A Macintosh version of the Logo programming language.
For teaching programming, math, space and geometry to the very young.
if you are interested to know, it was written in java which is cross-platform and versions can be downloaded for Unix and Windows.

www.rahul.net/rhn/cbas.page.html cbas.page.html -dot ??
For a free copy of the Chimunk Basic Interpreter. A well esablished program for Macs that equates with QBasic (that is, has to be present for the program to run and a beginner can't cause crashes or anything in error or while experimenting).
www.nicholson.com/rhn/basic/#1Documentation section of page.
Note. #1,#2, (no #3) #4 and #5 all are internal refernces to www.rahul.net/rhn/cbas.page.html above.
Question is should that link really be www.nicholson.com/rhn/basic now?
www.rahul.net appears to have unrelated role that his homepage (www.nicholson.com/rhn) hangs off.

www.stazsoftware.com
For Future Basic (formerly ZBasic) which closely resembles QBasic but like QuickBasic 4.5, can compile programs into machine language (ie "translate" or make an "executable") so anyone who owns a Macintosh can run your program without having Future Basic on their computer. Versions are FB2 (or FBII) then FB^3 (said FB 'cubed'). As at 22 Sept O2 it was FB^3 Rel 7 (often referred to as FutureBasic 7).
www.furrysoftware.com.au Furry Software. The Australian agent for Future Basic. Offers deal for schools. Seen student/school deals for FB2 which will run on older Macs (includes up grade to FB^3 option). Based in Bowral in Southern Highlands of New South Wales in Australia. Local Apple dealer, website developer and webspace provider, principle programer is an ex-teacher.

www.realbasic.com.
For RealBasic. Resembles Visual Basic; you design the user interface and then write the Basic code to make your program work. You can use RealBasic to write programs for Windows as well as Macintosh. Write your program in RealBasic and then RealBasic is able to turn it into a Windows program and a Macintosh program. If you want, RealBasic can convert Visual Basic source code to run on Macintosh. Converting Visual Basic to RealBasic to run on Macintosh won't be 100% accurate, which means you might have to modify the programs slightly.
New. RealBasic 5 will allow users on both Macintosh and Windows to create applications for either platform.

www.metroworks.com
For Code Warrior. Well named, it helped Macintosh to survive a bad time. Code Warrior enables you to write programs in four languages: C, C++, Java and Pascal. So don't buy four separate compilers ..get Code Warrior.
There's more! Metrowerks sells special versions of Code Warrior so that you can write programs for Win95/98/NT/2000, Win CE, Solaris, Linux, Sony Playstation, Nintendo and Palm Pilot, the popular handheld computer.
Code Warrior does not support Basic. See the four Basic entries above.
