WRAMTAS President's Message
September 1999
Hello Everyone! I hope everyone has had a restful summer. As for me, I am
very anxious, yet excited about this upcoming school year. We will hopefully have some new
things for eveyrone in the region to participate in as we spread music into our
communities. Just so you know, this website has taken the place of our regional student
newsletter to cut back on costs and for easier communication purposes between the student
officers and the members. Feel free to check it out as often as possible to keep updated
on regional news.
I need a list of the music therapy students at each school in the western region. If
that's not possible, please send the name, address, phone, and e-mail of the president of
each campus music therapy organization and/or a representative to the student executive
board for your school. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! We need to complete our executive board
with the school representatives.
At the last regional conference, it was voted that our region complete a service project
this year (and hopefully every year thereafter). The current plan is to create a
"Music Therapy Weekend" during either the second or third weekend (Friday,
Saturday, or Sunday) in the month of October. This will be an opportunity for each school
in the region to gather students together and put on a mini-music program at any community
facility. The activity will be done in the name of WRAMTAS, and will act as our service
project. As you know, we are the largest region with the greatest distance between our
schools. This is one of the few ways we can all work together (yet separately) in bringing
music to the community.
Lastly, as your president, I must attend the World Congress of Music Therapy in
Washington, D.C. during November. I will be representing our entire region at several
business meetings, as well as reporting to the students from other regions. It is stated
in the Constitution that the student president may request $2.00 from each WRAMTAS member
to help relieve the costs of registration and plane fare. So if you could please find it
in your hearts to help me, it would be really appreciated. Make checks payable to Karen
Fernandez. Send to 5650 Stratford Cir. #31 Stockton, CA 95207.
Well, I think I have covered many things in this letter. Please spread the word about
joining AMTA and all benefits of being a student member. And a reminder, YOU ARE NOT A
MEMBER OF WRAMTAS UNLESS YOU ARE A PAID STUDENT MEMBER OF AMTA. Thank you and I look
forward to hearing from you soon.
Karen Fernadez
