WRAMTAS President's Message

September 1999

Well, a new year has begun for our region and we hope to make some positive changes. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer vacation, although I’m sure many of us are either working or currently involved with internship. I am definitely looking forward to the new school year and I hope we can accomplish many wonderful things.

First of all, our new constitution has been revised thanks to our wonderful parliamentarian Carmen Steele. Check it out if you can so you can get a clearer picture of what WRAMTAS is about.

Secondly, we plan on unifying the region in a community service project for this year. If things go well, maybe we can accomplish one per semester. One idea I had was for each school to go out into the community and put on a music performance at either a school, residential home, hospital etc. As long as it is done in the name of WRAMTAS, it would be a regional project. Right now, I’m looking at the second or third weekend in October. This way, everyone will be back in school and have some time to plan what they’re going to do.

At the end of July I will be attending the Mid-year meeting for WRAMTA as the student representative. The meeting is being held in Seattle, WA and I have to give a student report. If you have any concerns you would like to be voiced, please let me know. My e-mail is KRF713@aol.com . So far, I will be discussing the possible service project and asking why some schools do not get their diploma until internship is completed. It seems that this poses a problem for several students. I would like to have more to report so please feel free to e-mail me or the region.

Not too far down the road is the World Congress held in Washington, D.C. in November. If you’re interested in going, I have several extra registration forms and if you’re looking for a cheap flight, I always call SouthWest Airlines. They probably won’t be booking until the end of July. It would be very nice to have our region represented at the conference and at the student meetings. This way, we can have a voice on issues concerning us. If you have any more questions, feel free to contact me.
