This is our newest hobby, poison dart frogs.  Now the immediate reaction to that is usually, "Don't they kill people?"...well, yes, some species of poison dart frogs can kill people...but in captivity, they do not produce poison at all.  It has something to do with their diet in the wild that lets them produce poison.

Dart frogs, also known as Poison Arrow frogs, got their name from one of the many species of them (terribillis), which is so poisonous it can be rubbed on an arrow point to kill quicker...they can kill a human being on contact!  Our frogs are not lethal but do produce a poison in the wild.  Here in captivity though, they are completely harmless.  Instead of using camoflage, their bright colors warn other animals to stay away.

We have two species of dart frogs.   They are Dendrobates Auratus and Dendrobates Tinctorius.  Click on the species name below to see my site about them.

Tinctorius

Also, click here to see the frogs' vivarium, a 29 gallon tank with tropical plants, moss, and even a pond.
