Kitty could not sleep well that night. She said that she could see ghosts in the darkness and was afraid. When her grandmother knew about this, she put a Buddha image under Kitty’s pillow. She promised that the Buddha would drive away any ghosts. Kitty went back to bed but an hour later, she got up again. She could still see the ghosts. This time it was her mother who was woken. Her mother thought of a way. She climbed into bed with her daughter, and tucked the two of them in. She asked Kitty to say the rosary. Together with her mother, Kitty felt secure and soon she fell asleep. But soon she awoke again. She insisted that she’d seen a ghost again. By now, Kitty’s father heard the commotion. He asked Kitty what kind of ghost she saw. Kitty said that it was the ghost she’d seen on TV that afternoon. But she hadn’t seen the end of the program. Knowing the story now, her father laughed, ‘I’ve seen the end of that show. In fact, it wasn’t a ghost at all, it was just a man who wanted to frighten little girls. You wouldn’t have been scared, would you?’ With these words, Kitty felt comfortable and fell asleep. When she woke the sun was shining and she’d forgotten all about ghosts.
