Minimum Tank Size and/or Tank Type= 25G (100L) and a community tank Favourite Foods= Small live foods, including livebearer fish fry. Other Info= Do not keep Angelfish with Neon Tetras as Neons are Angelfish's natural prey in the wild. You may be able to get away with it, so long as the neons are adults and the angelfish is a juvenile, but the angel may still eat the Neon when the Angelfish has grown up. Breeding Info= TANK: It is best if you have a high tank with a capacity of 38G (150L) per breeding pair, upright and slanting pieces of slate or glass panes and big leaved plants such as the genus Echinodorus. GENDER: older males have a larger head with a small pad of fat. BREEDING RATIO: 1 M:1 F BREEDING WATER: 26-28C (78-82F) pH of 6.5-7 dCH max 2. The eggs are yelloish translucent, the incubation period lasts about 2 day (48 hours), feed the fry brine shrimp or Cyclops nauplii OTHER BREEDING TIPS: Before selecting paired fish for breeding keep a large group of young fish together until they attain sexual maturity. When a pair has been selected for breeding, seperate them into different tanks, this is ideal for breeding, but it does not have to be done. It is a good idea to move the eggs to a different tank with the object they are resting on or scrape them into a small meshed sieve with a brush carefully. Treat the egs with methylene blue, maintain a constant temperature of 26C and give abundant aeration. The newly hatched fry are suspended in clusters from leaves or other objects by filaments. They switch over to ogenous nutrition after one week and their growth is rapid. Freshwatter, sufficient live foods and a spacious aquarium are factors that promote the growth of the young fish. | ![]() Photo Credit: Bombcat's Fishy Page ![]() Photo Credit: Bombcat's Fishy Page ![]() Photo Credit: Erik Cohen ![]() Photo Credit: Erik Cohen ![]() Photo Credit: Erik Cohen ![]() Photo Credit: Jill's Aquarium Site ![]() Photo Credit: Jill's Aquarium Site ![]() Photo Credit: Jill's Aquarium Site ![]() Photo Credit: Jill's Aquarium Site One of my pictures coming soon! |
