OTHER BREEDING INFO: Breeding this species is problematic, as it rarely breeds or not at all. A group of fish under observation in 1976 attained sexual maturity ang spawned for the first time in 1977 during a sudden frop in atmospheric pressure. Approximately 200 eggs were deposited by four females on the sides panes of the aquarium. The fertilized eggs were treated with methylene blue; the fry started exogenous nutrition nine days after spawning and were reared without any problems. Within three months the young fish reached a length of 1" (2.5CM). The same males and females spawned again after an interval of three months. They laied about the same amount of eggs again. The fish did not spawn again until 1984, even though the females were clearly fulk all the time but apparently no longer able to reproduce. It has been reported that full females have laided unfertilized eggs in absent of males. If you happen to be able to breed this fish, it is recommended that you feed them brine shrimp nauplii. The incubation period was about 96 hours (4 days), they eggs were greyish-opaque. | ![]() Photo Credit: Bombcat's Fishy Page ![]() Photo Credit: Bombcat's Fishy Page |
